Leadership in Africa and the African diaspora emerged from those who stood firm in their conviction of what was right and just. They exemplified their convictions by the way they lived and illustrated their love for the people through their actions. They never depended upon a single leader but
nurtured a multitude of leaders, including those who had honor bestowed upon them by the world as well as the countless brothers, sisters and youth who made decisions to forge ahead in the face of adversity. Our historical legacy from ancient Kemet; the unparalleled kingdoms of Mali, Songhai and Kush; through the atrocities of enslavement; up through the Civil Rights movement to navigating the present is spread across many geographical locations and varying demographics. The powerful voices and actions of Toussaint L'Overture, Harriet Tubman and Nat Turner led to emancipation; revolutionary leaders such as Queen Nzinga, Amilcar Cabral, Samora Machel and Nelson Mandela waged war against colonialism; W.E.B. DuBois, Booker T. Washington and Mary McLeod Bethune encouraged and inspired education; and from the roots of Marcus Garvey's Black nationalism leaders like Shirley Chisholm, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Fannie Lou Hamer, Dorothy Height and Kwame Toure fought for political participation and autonomy. The Black Lives Matter Movement, Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi and Patrisse Cullors are among those who are currently calling for revolution and total liberation. The question now is, what can we expect from our present and how can we ensure a Renaissance in our future.
We encourage the submission of proposals that focus on some aspects of the following topics:

- Leadership: Responsibility or Choice?
- Leadership and Activism: Are they one and the same?
- Leaders and Leadership in Pan-African Movements and Pan-African Organizations
- Leaders and Leadership in Liberation, Democratization, and Contemporary Struggles in Africa and the African Diaspora
- Black Women's Leadership in the "Imperialism of Patriarchy"
- Global African Leader-Queens and Their Legacies
- Denouncing Leaders and Leadership: Justified or Not?
- Technological Leadership: Global Africa's Rise
- Reparations and Repatriation: Unraveling the Pan Africa Leadership Position
- African Heritage: A Foundation for Nurturing Leadership
- Black Leadership in White Institutions: An Interrogation
Although this is a call for papers and proposals for panels, also accepted are workshops, films, and other creative works. Please send 150-400 word abstracts inclusive of title, organizer, participants and their abstracts. Be sure to include your name, address, institution or organizations, email and phone number.
