Introducing Our 2018 Jacques Jenny Lecturer!
This is a bit of a slow time for the VOS. The post-mortem of the 2017 meeting is complete but the flurry of activity for 2018 has not started yet. I thought this would be a good opportunity to introduce our Jacques Jenny lecturer for the 2018 meeting in Snowmass, Colorado.
Dr. Scott Banks is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida. Although you may not initially make the leap to veterinary orthopedics based on his department, he has been active in veterinary and human orthopedic research his entire career. Scott's research interests include joint biomechanics in animals and people in the healthy, diseased, and replaced states. His lectures in 2018 will likely include topics including radiographic measurement of dynamic skeletal motion, robotics in the operating room, and comparing human and dog knees.
Scott has attended the VOS meeting in years past so he is familiar with the format and comradery of our scientific sessions. I'm looking forward not only to his lectures but to his contributions to the scientific session in general. Snowmass 2018, here's another reason to attend.
We still have availability on the ad hoc WVOC committee (Barcelona 2018). Please let
Maralyn or me know if you are interested in being involved with this event.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS AND EXHIBITORS
|
by Cheryl Tano and Nina Kieves Advertising / Publicity / Sponsor Chair and Exhibit Chair
The VOS 44th annual meeting was a wonderful success that included great lectures, comic relief, skiing and spectacular weather. As always, we need to thank all of our sponsors and exhibitors because without you we could not produce a meeting of this caliber.
New Generation Devices generously sponsored the publishing of the proceedings. All abstracts will appear in the third issue of VCOT. The Jacques Jenny Lecture series had multiple sponsors this year and included DePuy Synthes, Elanco, IMEX and Zoetis. Purina sponsored the sports medicine track, and Arthrex sponsored an equine session.
A very special thank you to the endowed sponsors of the Mark Bloomberg Resident Research Award that includes AOVet, Merial, New Generation Devices, Orthomed, Securos Surgical (AmerisourceBergen) and the VOS Past Presidents, while Arthrex sponsored the yet-to-be endowed award. (If any company is interested in becoming an endowed sponsor, please contact Dick Lau). A second thank you to Everost for also sponsoring the Residents in Training session.
The planning for VOS 2018 in Snowmass, Colorado, March 10-17 has begun. We again thank each and every one of our sponsors and exhibitors. We are excited to return to Snowmass and look forward to seeing everyone in 2018.

by Reunan Guillou and José M. Garcia-Lopez
VOS Scientific Program Chair and Assistant Scientific Program Chair
We invite practitioners, academicians, and researchers interested in large animal, small animal, and exotic species, to submit abstracts of novel studies in practical and scientific topics related to veterinary orthopedics and traumatology. Preference will be given to abstracts that have clinical relevance. Papers addressing results of controlled retrospective and prospective clinical studies are strongly encouraged. Clinician investigators should also consider submitting innovative surgical techniques, or case reports describing unusual or difficult cases as these will be reviewed separate from the scientific abstracts. Presentations will be limited to 10 minutes and followed by 5 minutes of discussion. Posters must fit within the 4' (height) x 4' (width) area provided.
Call for papers will open on August 15th 2017 and close on October 15th 2017 for both podium presentations and posters. See the link on the VOS website:
www.vosdvm.org
for full details of abstract submission, formatting and regulations.
Submission categories will be:
- Clinical/Scientific Studies
- Case reports: a maximum of three novel or interesting cases
The Mark S. Bloomberg Memorial Resident Research Award was established to recognize outstanding resident abstract submissions to the scientific program. At least one recipient per year will be awarded up to $1,500.00 towards expenses to attend and present their abstract at our annual meeting. Only individuals currently in a residency training program or within 2 years of completion of a formal residency program are eligible. The abstract submission may only be of studies conducted during the residency program. All abstracts being submitted for consideration of this award must indicate so on online submission form.
