Miss Jane recommends The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet by Carmen Deedy
The village of La Paz is a happy one, with all that singing and hustle bustle from morning till night, but it's hard to get a good night's sleep! So a new mayor enforces a "quiet law." Before long, all singing is outlawed. Even the teakettles have to put a lid on it! It takes the pluck of a brave and irrepressible rooster to reinstate the joys of a noisy village. We hear the message of freedom of speech loud and clear in Carmen Agra Deedy's tale,
The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet, and it's an important one. Deedy's story is thoroughly engaging with bright and appealing illustrations by Eugene Yelchin.
