Principal's Column
Entering the final weeks of the 2016-17 school year has made me reflective about my first year as principal. I've spent 20 years at Lake Park in the classroom, as a coach and an assistant principal, but the opportunity to serve in this position has been my most rewarding yet.
I've had the privilege of meeting and speaking with our Lancer Leads students at both campuses each month. These leaders provide feedback, ask questions and challenge me to think creatively and strategically about the future of Lake Park. I really appreciate their honesty, insights and openness about any topics we discuss.
Another highlight for me has been the chance to meet so many parents and hear their observations as well. Whether it has been during formal events like parent orientations, along the sideline of a game or in the auditorium before a concert begins, I welcome any occasion to hear feedback.
My philosophy is student focused, and I am committed to be as visible and accessible to families as possible. I have enjoyed attending events from athletics to fine arts and - when my schedule allowed - even hit the road to support some state bound teams and competitions in places like Springfield and Indianapolis.
The momentum we began this school year with doesn't end at graduation. Our Lancer community will recognize the achievements of the Class of 2017 during commencement on Thursday, May 25. At that time, we will welcome a new alumni class -- "Lancers for Life" who will continue to lead, inspire and make a difference like they have at Lake Park.
The lense through which I see now is broader than I could have ever imagined, and I'm grateful for the learning and growing in this first year. We Are Lake Park. We Are One. Future Forward!

Community Connection
Flags for Roselle, a partnership among the Roselle History Museum, American Legion, Boy Scouts and Lake Park High School, is seeking volunteers! Roselle residents had the opportunity to "subscribe" to have a flag installed on their front lawn on four important holidays; Memo
rial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day. Proudly, nearly 200 households will be supporting the red, white and blue through this program.
To ensure all flags are successfully installed at 7:00 a.m. and removed at 7:00 p.m. beginning on Memorial Day, Flags for Roselle is recruiting volunteers to organize "installation teams." This would involve a team of 3-4 members with a vehicle large enough to carry 8-foot flag poles to approximately 10-15 households located in close proximity. Each team will be provided specific pick-up, installation and removal instructions. The only requirements are to provide your own safety glasses, gloves and a mallet.
If you are interested in assembling an installation team starting on Memorial Day, or would like more information about getting involved, visit this link or contact Dominic Manola with any questions.
