There is a blizzard of legislation happening in Concord this winter, forming a paid family and medical leave insurance pool, repealing concealed carry permits, "right to work", repealing the ban on texting and driving, school funding allocations, restricting voter access, including trans-gendered citizens in non-discrimination policies, it can seem endless.

The beginning of the Sununu administration has been busy. The new Governor delivered his first budget address to a joint session of the legislature calling for increased spending on education, infrastructure and the opioid crisis while calling for cuts in business taxes. Governor Sununu's budget calls for $12.1 billion in state spending in fiscal years 2018 and 2019, and $800 million increase from the previous budget. The Governor believes that the increased spending will be covered by increased revenue from existing sources and not from any increase in taxes. Read More...

City's Fiscal Year Budget Process Ramps Up

The adoption of the City of Dover's fiscal year budget is the single-most important policy decision before the City Council, and among the most significant interests before the community. On March 22, I will present the proposed budget to the City Council. It's important that this process be transparent, but also accessible. 

To help the public better navigate the budget process, I offer Budget Revealed, an online resource intended to provide a closer look at the City of Dover's budget, including important information about the how the budget is prepared, how budget priorities are determined, how the budget is funded, and the role of the City Council in deliberating and adopting a budget each spring.
