UFTI Affiliate Dr. Chris Ferraro Tests Various Materials as Partial Replacements for Portland Cement in Concrete

UFTI affiliate Dr. Chris Ferraro, Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering, conducted a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) grant-funded project to test alternative materials that could replace some or all of the fly ash currently required by the FDOT in concrete mixes.  The use of alternative pozzolanic materials has benefits both by lowering costs while maintaining standards of strength and durability, protecting the environment by reducing greenhouse gas production, and utilizing waste materials. UFTI Researchers Collaborating with the City of Gainesville to Test New Traffic Data Collection Approaches that Include AVs

UFTI affiliated student Patrick Emami, with the help of the City of Gainesville's Traffic Operations division, Image Sensing Systems, and the Autonomous Vehicles at Intelligent Intersections and Advanced Networks  (AVIAN) team, installed a radar at the intersection of SW 42nd St and SW 40th Blvd to test new technologies and algorithms that will facilitate the presence of autonomous and connected vehicles.  To read more and view pictures [ click here ].

Truck Platooning Technology Investigated by UFTI Affiliate Soon to Roll out onto Florida Roads

UFTI affiliate Dr. Carl D. Crane and his team have been working on a FDOT-funded study about autonomous truck platooning technology which may soon be rolled out onto Florida roads.  To read the full WUFT article, [ click here].

UFTI's T2 Center Offering Webinar on the Route Condition Tool, May 4, 2017, 10 am to 11 am

This webinar will enable urban planners and engineers to  i mprove walk-ability and safety by providing a comprehensive and never-before-seen view of their transportation systems using t he Route Condition Tool. On June 2, 2017, the STRIDE Center, along with the University of Florida Transportation Institute's (UFTI) Technology Transfer (T2) unit, will be hosting a one-day event at the UF Campus to showcase various products resulting from STRIDE-funded research. Tom Byron of FDOT to Take Over as Chair of the UFTI's External Advisory Board

Tom Byron, PE, assistant secretary of  Intermodal Systems Development at the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), will be serving as the new chair of the UFTI's External Advisory Board.  We appreciate the significant contributions of our previous EAB chair, Milton Carrasco, who served in this capacity for three years.
