Permit Free Garage Sale Weekend - In order to assist Westland residents with their spring cleaning and make a little extra money at the same time, the City of Westland is offering a permit free garage sale weekend on May 5 and 6. Residents can host a garage sale and avoid the normal $12 permit fee. As an added incentive to participate, the city will help promote your sale for free at www.cityofwestland.com. Simply visit the site to register your sale to send buyers right to your door.

Saturday in the Park - Saturday, May 6 marks the return of Wayne County Parks' Saturday in the Park program. Each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., visitors can walk, run, skate or cycle safely along six miles of Hines Drive. Hines Drive will be shut down to vehicular traffic from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive so that guests have the opportunity to participate in their favorite activities in a vehicle-free environment. The Saturday in the Park program will take continue every Saturday through September 30. All ages are encouraged to participate. Parking is available at the Hines Park-Helms Haven Area (Hines Drive, west of Outer Drive) and Hines Park-Nankin Mills Picnic Area (Hines Drive, east of Ann Arbor Trail). Farmers Market Opening Day - Opening day of the All American Farmers and Artisans Marketplace is Thursday, May 11 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The theme for opening day is "Celebrate Mom," as Mother's Day is just around the corner! The Marketplace is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public and a great place to find the finest locally grown produce, flowers and handmade goods. The Farmers Market will take place every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Central City Park, located at 1901 N. Carlson.

Police vs. Fire Dodgeball Tournament - On Thursday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m. Westland's own "Hometown Heroes" the police and fire departments will battle it out to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This will be the third annual tournament held at Airtime Trampoline, located at 36901 Warren Rd. The event is a fundraiser for Mayor Wild's Wild Walkers Relay for Life team and all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society to help them finish the fight against cancer. The cost is only $5 for spectators who wish to cheer on their team.

Stamp Out Hunger - On Saturday, May 13 the Letter Carrier's food drive celebrates its 25th year. You can help by putting your non-perishable donation by your mailbox and the United States Postal Service will pick it up and deliver it to a local food bank, benefiting those in need within our community.

19th Annual North Brothers 5K Fun Run - Saturday, May 13th is the date for the 19th Annual North Brothers 5k Fun Run. There is still time to register for this great event that raises money for the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. Racers will gather at the Farmers & Artisans Marketplace Pavilion for a 9:00 a.m. start to the race. If you are interested in registering, please call Ashley Duff at North Brothers Ford at 734-524-1258.

Mom's Golf Free - Don't forget, Mother's Day is Sunday, May 14! If the special woman in your life is a golfer, you should make plans to visit the Westland Municipal Golf Course on Saturday, May 13 or Sunday, May 14 when Mom's golf for free! With one paid round of 9-holes and a cart, Mom can come along and golf at no charge. The golf course is located at 500 S. Merriman Rd.
