April 2017
Hello ISANNE friends,

I want to give a "shout out" to all of the ISANNE members who help make our events work. Your leadership shines in many ways. Whether you serve on one of the conference committees, host a school visit, respond to emails asking for speaker suggestions or discussion topics or even step up to lead a round table topic discussion, your help is invaluable. Shared leadership enhances the fundamental purpose of ISANNE.  As we articulated in our 2015 strategic plan, ISANNE is "passionately committed to cultivating the leadership needed to ensure the sustainability, vitality and relevance of independent education in Northern New England."

Your willingness to share your time and enthusiasm with other schools cultivates leadership skills for your school and models it for others. You lead when you show up and jump in

The power of leadership and teams working together was in evidence through all of our spring conferences. Teams attended Gould Academy's session on Design Thinking, the Admissions Conference on data, marketing and fit, the Student Life conference featuring Christine Miller's presentation on anxiety and depression in adolescents and the Academic Leaders unConference at Holderness School. The heads heard from Dr. Chris Jernstedt on "Learning and the Brain", the admissions professionals worked on case studies focused on student profiles and school fit and student life participants pondered the impact of gender and brain development.  All of the programs combined new information, group discussion and collaboration. As one Student Life attendee wrote, "I really liked working with other schools and gathering ideas to take back - I felt like I was not in the trenches alone."  Participants arrived ready to dive into the issues and left eager to apply their new ideas on campus.

Thanks to everyone for showing up, jumping in and making good things happen.

Laurie
Executive Director

Why the School One Chooses Matters

The thirteen years of school between kindergarten and senior year should prepare a student well for college. And yet, in the United States, only 37% of high school graduates are prepared to take college-level courses. Fewer than that, only a quarter, are prepared to take college-level mathematics.
