Choreo Dance Member, Miranda Kim, Finalist for the NDEO Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award

Palos Verdes High School senior, and four year Choreo dance member Miranda Kim recently became a finalist for the National Dance Education Organization Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award. It is truly a great honor since Miranda was competing against students from across the nation for this recognition.  Miranda is an exceptional young lady and a great representative of Palos Verdes High School and Sea King Dance.  The solo performance that she submitted was also performed at our recent Choreo dance concert "Vocabulary of Dance".
Athletics:

Boys Golf:
The Sea Kings were in action in the Villa Park Classic on Monday. The team won the invitational  by 5 shots over Brea Olinda HS. Patrick McNary and Michael Sanzone each shot 1 under par for the round.

The Sea Kings also racked up two wins in league play against West Torrance this week.

Boys Volleyball:
It was a big win for the Sea Kings on Thursday! PV took down Mira Costa 3-1 at home, defeating the Mustangs for the second straight year. PV also had a 3-0 win at Inglewood and now sit at 5-2 in Bay League play this season.

Girls Lacrosse:
PV split two big Bay League games this week. PV won at Mira Costa by a score of 17-11 but then lost to Redondo 14-6 at home on Friday. Pv has split the season series with Redondo, so a co-Bay League Championship is still in play for the Sea Kings!

Boys Lacrosse:
This week had 2 big wins and 1 narrow defeat for PV. The team had a very close 8-7 loss against state power La Costa Canyon. The boys bounced back with a 26-2 win over Redondo and a 12-3 win over Mira Costa.

Baseball:
Baseball had a light schedule this week, but made the most of it. The team hosted St Bernard's in tournament play on Saturday and came away with a convincing 20-2 victory. PV moves on to the semifinals of the tournament.

Softball:
PV scored a big Bay League win over Redondo Union this week. The team won 3-1 and now is tied with Redondo for 2nd in the league behind Mira Costa. The second round of play will be vital in determining league champs and berths to the CIF playoffs!

Boys Tennis:
Boys Tennis was in action against Mira Costa this week. The team lost 10-8 but showed signs of improvement since the first round of Bay League play. A big week, including the Ojai Tournament is on tap for PV!

Track and Field:
PV wrapped up the Bay League team season with a dual meet at rival Peninsula. PV was victorious in both the boys and the girls genders and both teams secured 3rd place in the Bay League. Ian Irish and Will Boss each won 3 events and Camille Hines won 4 events for the Sea Kings.

On Saturday PV was in action in the South Bay Championships. PV's lone South Bay Champion was Grace Catena, who won the 3200m title for the second consecutive year.

PV will compete in the Bay League prelims this Saturday.

Swim
The boys and girls swim teams hosted Mira Costa this week in a Bay League contest. Mira Costa prevailed in both divisions but some of PV's times were their fastest of the season. The Sea Kings host Peninsula on Thursday for the last home meet and last Bay League dual meet of the season.

PVHS Arts, Academics, and Athletic Programs:  Improved Dance Facilities Fundraiser 2017

Let's come together as a community! Four hundred PVHS students, including those in Choreo, Song, Cheer, Intermediate Dance, Musical Theater, Drama, Jazz Band, Color Guard, Yoga, P.E. Dance, school clubs, and various academic programs utilize the dance facilities every day for training, preparation, and education. Rehearsals for pep rallies, shows, sports, and theatrical productions are also held in the dance facilities.

PVHS requires updated, properly sprung dance floors to ensure a safe and appropriate training environment. The sprung floors will help decrease injuries resulting from the poor condition of our existing floors which were installed in 1961. The estimated cost to upgrade the facilities is $60,000.00 and our goal is to complete this project no later than July 2017.

The PVHS Booster Club has generously contributed $12,500.00 with an additional $30,000.00 from the District and School Site Funds. $2,500.00 has been raised to date, and an additional $15,000.00 must still be raised to support this project. To reach our fundraising goal, we would appreciate $100.00 or more per family, but any donation will make a difference. Thank you for making great things happen at PVHS!
