Rancho Cordova is the Fastest Growing City in Sacramento County

According to a recent report by the California Department of Finance, the City of Rancho Cordova was the fastest growing city in Sacramento County last year. In 2016, Rancho Cordova grew by 2.2% from 72,203 to 73,847. The significant development of homes, jobs, and businesses make the City an emerging urban center. 



$25 Million in Public Works Projects Planned for 2017

The City is investing approximately $25 million this year to create walkable, connected neighborhoods and safe routes, while also beautifying Rancho Cordova. 2017 may be one of the biggest funding years for capital improvements the City has had to date! 

Public Works for You

Your City Public Works team is busy improving our City with these new projects:

2017 Street Rehabilitation Project
This project will begin in the Cordova Meadows neighborhood in early May 2017, weather permitting. The project is supported by the City's Community Enhancement Fund and includes new asphalt overlay, portions of sidewalk and ramp replacements, and minor stormwater upgrades. The project will improve driver and pedestrian safety, improve the neighborhood walkability, and enhance accessibility for residents in the neighborhoods.

2017 ADA Sidewalk Improvement Project
Already under construction, this project is replacing sections of sidewalk in front of 28 residential homes throughout the community. The sidewalks will improve pedestrian safety and enhance accessibility for residents.

Traffic Management Center
The City is enhancing its Traffic Management Center capabilities to help improve the timing and inter-connectivity of traffic signals to reduce traffic congestion and improve the efficiency of driving.
 
Wayfinding Program
Funded by the Community Enhancement Fund, the City will implement new "wayfinding" signage to guide motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians to various popular destinations in the City.

Rancho Cordova Celebrates Earth Day

Assemblyman Ken Cooley, Republic Services, and the Sacramento Children's Museum hosted their Annual Earth Day Celebration in Rancho Cordova on April 22nd. Residents enjoyed a day of live music and interactive, Earth-friendly activities in front of City Hall. 
Rancho Cordova Ranks High as Green Career City

The City of Rancho Cordova was recently awarded a top ranking as one of "America's 2017 Best Cities for a Green Career" by the data analysis company GoodCall. Rancho Cordova ranked 35th out of 192 U.S. cities included in the full analysis, and among just the California cities, Rancho Cordova was the 4th best city for a green career, surpassing neighboring cities and even San Francisco! 

 

City Plants Nearly 250 Trees in Last Two Months 

Thanks to the hard work and partnership between the City, the Cordova Recreation & Park District, community volunteers, the Sacramento Tree Foundation, and SMUD, nearly 250 trees were planted in Rancho Cordova between March and April!

You'll find new trees and more shade at homes, community parks, churches, and schools throughout Rancho Cordova. Free trees are brought to you by the City's Community Enhancement Fund. If you'd like free trees for your home, church, or business,  let us know . Let's make every day Arbor Day!


May is Bike Month! 

May is Bike Month, and Rancho Cordova is a great place to ride! This is the 13th year that volunteers, businesses, public agencies, and enthusiasts will partner to promote bicycling for all types of trips.

Sac Regional Transit Launches Survey to Gather Feedback 

The Sacramento Regional Transit District (Sac RT) is undergoing a major transformation to enhance service, improve agency operations and bring greater value to the region. An important part of this effort is community engagement, and Sac RT has launched an online survey to gather feedback from Sacramento County residents about public transit.

Mosquito Awareness Week was last month, but we should all be thinking about the health risks associated with mosquitoes year-round! As the rain subsides and temperatures warm up, conditions will be perfect for mosquitoes to thrive. FCUSD Teacher named ABC10's "Teacher of the Month" 

Last month, Jessica Cisneros-Elliott, an independent studies teacher at Walnutwood High School in Rancho Cordova, was selected as ABC10's Teacher of the Month. Cisneros-Elliott has been a teacher with Folsom Cordova Unified School District for seven years and  was recognized for her work to tailor curriculum based on students' interests and goals.



Early Registration for Library's Summer Reading Program

Registration for Sacramento Public Library's Summer Reading program begins May 15! Summer Reading celebrates and encourages reading nationwide from June 1 to August 15. It also helps kids retain reading skills gained during the school year. Sign up for Summer Reading at the Rancho Cordova Library, and beginning June 1st, start logging books and completing activities to earn points and win prizes! 

Promoting Awareness Through Building Safety Month

During the month of May, the City's Building & Safety Department is promoting awareness about the building construction, design, and safety community that is vital to th e health and safety of our residents and business owners.

New Date: Hacker Lab Expo at City Hall
See what a future Hacker Lab of Rancho Cordova might look like on June 10th (new date) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at City Hall. The free, family-friendly expo includes live demonstrations, technology exhibits, and workshops. RSVP here

Redtail Technology Moves Headquarters to Rancho Cordova
Redtail Technology , a leading provider of client relationship management solutions for financial services firms, recently announced that they purchased their new headquarters in Rancho Cordova.   Redtail acquired the 30,000 square foot facility in Rancho Cordova earlier this year and will begin relocating some of the company's employees at the end of 2017.

Like helping others? Got some free time? Are you a handy person? If yes, then lend a helping hand as a City of Rancho Cordova Helping Others volunteer! Our Community Engagement Division is organizing a team of volunteers to help fellow Rancho Cordovans with small outdoor home improvements on an ongoing basis. New to Rancho Cordova? The Explore Program Welcomes You! 

Residents who have moved to Rancho Cordova in the past 12 months are invited to the New Resident Welcome Reception at City Hall on May 23rd. Every quarter, the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce hosts the events as part of the Explore Program, which is supported in part by the City's Community Enhancement Fund.

New residents are treated with a self-guided tour of City Hall, light refreshments, and a welcome bag containing informational materials and fun swag.  


11th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony to Honor Korean War Veterans 

At the 11th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 29th, Rancho Cordova will honor the courage and sacrifices of Korean War Veterans. Join us for a commemoration ceremony at the Sacramento VA Medical Center at Mather.


Take a Trip Around the World at iFest

Rancho Cordova's 2017 iFest or International Festival is on May 13th from 5 - 9 p.m. at Village Green Park. This FREE family-friendly festival celebrates the ethnic diversity of the community in an outdoor setting.

This year's theme is Animals of the World and includes a petting zoo, camels, and wild animal shows. Come for free henna tattoos, fortune tellers, pedicab rides, cultural dance performances and more. This year, iFest will also mark the 75th anniversary of the internment of Japanese Americans by hosting an origami peace cranes folding booth. Wine lovers can also purchase special tickets to  Wines of the World to taste 12 wines from six different continents.

Annual Women's Luncheon Honors Vice Mayor Linda Budge 

Each Spring, the Sacramento Children's Museum honors an inspirational woman for the positive impact she has made on young children. The 2017 Honoree is Rancho Cordova Vice Mayor Linda Budge! Join us on May 10th. 

PAL Motivational Leadership Academy 

Rancho Cordova's Police Activities League (PAL) Youth 
Leadership Council will be hosting the Motivational Leadership Academy on Saturday, May 27th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, titled G.R.I.T - Great Role Models & Inspiring Teens, aims to empower 100 youth to see themselves as role models and recognize their ability to inspire others.  The event is supported by the City's Community Enhancement Fund and is free to participants.

Rancho Cordova Remembers Dan Skoglund 

On April 20th, the City of Rancho Cordova lost a great friend, colleague, and community leader, Dan Skoglund. He passed away due to complications from a recent surgery. Dan lived in Rancho Cordova since 1975, and served on the City Council since 2004. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and his work in the community.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
