FACES & PLACES POW
The Fort Worth Opera hosted 25 Upper Tier Chamber members Sunday at the annual Fort Worth Opera Festival. Members and their guests experienced "Carmen" at downtown Fort Worth's world-class Bass Performance Hall and were invited to the Green Room during intermission. Raul Pena, TranSystems Corp., and his wife Lisa were two of the lucky who enjoyed a boffo performance and made the scene.

A rosy outlook: Mr. B hardly can contain hisownself. The long-dormant romance gene has been ripped van winkle from its hibernation as he imagines a "Bachelor-type" scene with this Mother's Day offering from the ever incredible Gordon Boswell Flowers. Erica has put together a bouquet like none other AND embellished it with soaps and lotions and all Mr. B is thinking is rose petals strewn about as a path to a bath. Where did all that come from? Make a mother melt with this Gordon Boswell flower and spa goodies gift.

Day trippin': Or staycationing. Dave O'Lenick, the Senior Sales Sensation at the Sheraton Fort Worth Downtown Hotel, won an internal contest and earned a trip. It was WOGO ... Win One, Give One. He gives, you get. Pack your bag(s) or backpack and enjoy a Friday or Saturday night
stay in a hotel that is casual greatness. Renovated in 2015, this Sheraton's interiors are welcoming and the peeps are extraordinarily helpful. It doesn't hurt to have a 24-hour gym, heated indoor pool, free wi-fi and free parking. Outside the front door is the beautiful and nap-perfect Fort Worth Water Gardens. If Rover is under 80 pounds, bring it along.

I want to be Dapper: The long-time Legacy of Men event of SafeHaven of Tarrant County is now called the Dapper Dinner Community Strong.  Still, it honors men that help women and children and this year's honoree is Troy Moncrief, the president of The Baker Firm / Fidelity National Title in Fort Worth. If it's outdoors and benefiting kids, Troy likely is volunteering. The Dapper Dinner May 19 at River Ranch Stockyards features live music by Calamity Janes, yard games, a live auction and an open bar. SafeHaven works to end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention and social change. Valerie Salter salted away two tickets.

Get the drop on entrepreneurship: He developed eye drops that will enable folks to forego reading glasses. She co-founded a company that developed drops to clear out excessive ear wax. There's another whose company delivers gas to cars and trucks at your work site.  They and an investor will discuss Fort Worth entrepreneurs who are changing the world May 16 during the Fort Worth Business Press' BusinessforBreakfast at the Fort Worth Club. The discussion will be facilitated by Darlene Boudreaux, executive director of TECH Fort Worth. BizPress' Lauren (oy) Vay has a seat for two readers.

And they're off...: The Kentucky Derby is Saturday and the studly event of horse racing challenges young three-year-olds over 1 ΒΌ miles amid the pomp and parties of southern society. The event is on many bucket lists. If you can't make it to Churchill Downs this year, John Zimmerman, Executive Vice President at Briggs Freeman Sotheby's International Realty, and Allen Wallach, CEO of Pavlov Advertising, are throwing down a Derby delight at an estate in Montserrat. From 3-6 p.m. Saturday, you and a guest can mix with the mostest in a five bedroom, six-bath, 9,156-square-foot house. Food from Felipe, drinks, including some premium vodkas and a Reserve or two, a DJ and plenty of huge flat screens to watch the race.

HE SAID, SHE SAID, THEY SAIDSoundBytes
Meat this centenarian: The family of Lucas Sawyer, Worthington National Bank lender, owns Sawyer Meats in South Bend, Indiana (Irish stew?) It was opened by his great grandfather in 1917. Lucas still works there on trips back home.

Green light this: Navy vet Samuel Werschky is the new assistant director of Fort Worth's Transportation & Public Works Department. He once worked as the deputy director of public works at Presidential retreat Camp David.

They're getting adjusted: Dr. Trevor Adams and wife, Bailey, a TCU grad, haven't decided on a location for Vertical Chiropractic. But they've already joined the Chamber to drum up business for when they open this summer. Doc says he'll specialize in pediatrics, pregnancies and families. Says babies can be "adjusted" minutes after birth.

Bell tolled for us: Founded in 1935 by Larry Bell, Bell Helicopter moved from Buffalo to Fort Worth in 1951. Mitch Snyder, president and CEO of Bell, says, "Yes, weather was a factor." There also was a directive from the government to defense contractors to get away from the coasts because of the Cold War / Russian threat. Larry Bell was moved by the "frontier and can-do attitude" that Fort Worth presented. Wonder what he would think about Uber-Bell flying cars?

Nail this interview: Construction, beyond infrastructure, begins this month for Texas Live! in the Arlington entertainment district. Renee Parker says Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County is helping to fill more than 1,000 jobs during the project.

I wanna take you hire: Mr. B is a college dropout-before-kicked-out. That's how the Fort Worth Chamber snares him for 39 cents pay. All of the 500 or so Fort Worth ISD grads that attend the June 8 Hiring Fair will fare better. Multiple chambers, Workforce Solutions, Goodwill and the Girl Scouts have put together this jobs jackpot for the 24th consecutive year. It is at Will Rogers from 1:00-4:00 p.m. If your company has entry-level jobs, you can have FREE registration and a booth. Click here for more information.

" Plants don't smile; they don't move. Not like visiting the zoo and getting excited."
--  Dr. Edward Schneider, Executive Director
Botanical Research Institute of Texas
Not your father's field trip: Melanie and Jeffrey McGee, both in the University of Texas at Arlington College of Business, are off this month with MBA students to the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) to study Strategies in Sustainability.

Not keeping up with Joneses: TCU media marvelous Tracy Syler-Jones is one of the five honorees during next week's Easter Seals North Texas Hats Off to Mothers luncheon.

Play school: Susan Chiasson, Innovations Powered by Play, does her management training using Legos. She has a great tagline ...
"Come play with me."

No. 1 in every industry: Handyman Matters franchise owner Brett Jeffreys knew retail fixing (Best Buy, Dick's) not home fixing before starting his entrepreneurial endeavor. "Retail sales successes were about delivering customer service," he said. "Hire the right people, treat them right and they treat customers right. I chose Handyman Matters because of the high customer service standards it sets."

Freeze frame: Network Mania -- Chamber speed dating for leads -- emerged from hibernation last week at the recently opened Courtyard Marriott in the Stockyards. When each date time was up, facilitator LaShelle Knox of QCS Unlimited played Let It Go from the movie Frozen.

We love our sponsors: Thank you, Tarrant County College District. TCCD spent April testing B2B Insider with a banner ad at the top. Enrollment increased so much a new campus is being planned. Grades improved. More $$$ means salary increases for all employees. A very ecstatic TCCD renewed its ad for 12 months. Advertising still works, folks. E-mail Mr. B to buy your ads.
