Twice a month, first and third Thursday, it will arrive in your inbox and keep you updated on all things happening in Paradise. We'll provide information on Town events, new initiatives, Town operations and more.

2017 Municipal Awards Ceremony
The Town of Paradise Annual Municipal Awards were presented at a ceremony on April 25 during National Volunteer Week. In its 27th year, the awards recognize the valuable community contributions of individuals, groups, and new for 2017, businesses, in Paradise.

"Our annual Municipal Awards ceremony is a time to recognize and celebrate all those who help make our Town the great community it is," said Mayor Dan Bobbett. "It is extremely rewarding to see the number and calibre of nominations received and I congratulate all 2017 nominees and award recipients."

Awards were presented in 11 categories: Junior Male and Female Athlete of the Year; Male and Female Athlete of the Year; Coach of the Year; Youth of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Volunteer Group of the Year; Citizen of the Year; and new for 2017 is the addition of the two business awards: Business Excellence and Property Pride.

Topsail Road Work  Resumes
Construction work on the Phase IV of Topsail Road Widening Project will resume on Monday, May 8.  

The work includes widening Topsail Road from Christopher Street to St. Thomas Line, installing storm sewers, curb, gutter and sidewalk, and replacing the bridge at Christopher Street.

A detour will be in place for the duration of the work and full details, including detour route and traffic calming details, are available on the Town website: paradise.ca/roads

In order to complete work on the bridge, Topsail Road at Christopher Street will be closed from May 12-15 to allow for the replacement of the bridge. Beginning 6:30 p.m. Friday until 6:00 a.m. Monday all traffic will be detoured through St. Thomas Line, Lanark Drive and Glendarek Drive. 
Beaumont Hamel Centennial Cup 
At the May 2 Council Meeting, Mayor Bobbett presented the full proceeds from admission tickets for the 2017 Beaumont-Hamel Centennial Cup to the host team the Holy Spirit Falcons. To support this tournament, the Town opted to donate its portion from admission sales ($3,157.50) to the organizers for a total of $10,525 raised by the event.

The annual invitational hockey tournament is an event meant to honour the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel and the sacrifice of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. The Paradise Double Ice Complex is home ice for the event and welcomes 16 teams from across the province. This year's tournament was held April 3 to 9 and the Ascension High Astros of Bay Roberts claimed the Beaumont-Hamel Centennial Cup for 2017.  
Municipal Awareness Day 2017
Join us May 10 at the Paradise Double Ice Complex to learn about the Town, what we do, and how we operate. We'll also be joined by several community groups. There will be departmental and community information booths, chances to chat one-on-one with the Mayor and Council, prize giveaways, and more.
Neighbourhood Watch Session
As part of Municipal Awareness Day, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary will host a Neighbourhood Watch information session at the Paradise Double Ice Complex at 7:30 p.m. 

Neighbourhood Watch is a community-based crime prevention program designed to improve the quality of life within neighbourhoods by minimizing preventable crime and promoting closer community ties.
Canada 150 Community Leaders  
Levi Moulton, Todd Ralph and Mayor Dan Bobbett are the Town's Canada 150 Community Leaders.

They are part of a network from thousands of municipalities across Canada, ensuring municipal voices are front-and-centre during the year-long celebration of Canada's 150th year of confederation.

Community Leaders will act as ambassadors for communities and help to spread the word about celebrations, share community experiences, and become involved local activities. You'll see Todd, Levi and Mayor Bobbett out and about at Town events throughout the year, showing our participation in Canada 150!
