Nurse Tank Testing Workshop Keeps AAI Members Up To Date

The Agribusiness Association of Iowa brought in nurse tank regulations experts to provide the latest information to members attending the annual Nurse Tank Testing Workshop on June 21.

Art Fleener and James Flattery with the United States Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration led the workshop providing the latest on nurse tank regulation for both on site and tank transport. Representatives from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and the Iowa DOT were also on site to answer questions specific to the state of Iowa.

The event, held at the Gilbert Fire Station in Gilbert, Iowa, provides an opportunity for AAI member business employees to acquire nurse tank training and to brush up on current regulations.

AAI holds workshops throughout the year. Please visit us at www.agribiz.org/educaiton to view all our 2016 educational opportunities.

by: Farm Industry News

This week the Federal Aviation Administration has released its new rules for the operation for unmanned aerial vehicles, and while you may be reading some grousing by some industries over this first pass on operation; for agriculture the rules are basically nothing but good news.

Dow and DuPont Decide on Merger in July Meeting
by: Agribusiness Report

Stockholders will hold separate shareholder meetings on July 20th in Delaware and Michigan. The companies announced a merger worth $120 billion.  After it's completed, Dow and DuPont would split into three separate, publicly-traded companies. One will be specifically agriculture.

Senate Judicatory Committee Chair and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is opposed to agribusiness consolidation.

He wants a thorough probe of the merger, with careful analysis on if it would limit seed choices and raise farmer costs.  He says if all the proposed mergers go through, there will be only four major seed companies.

RFS Hearing: No Rock Unturned
by: Agri-Pulse

Wednesday's hearing was scheduled to examine "implementation issues" with the RFS, but there was little discussion about the conflicts that led to three years' worth of blending requirements being issued at once  last November.  Instead, the questions and statements from lawmakers touched on issues with the program as a whole, as they offered familiar talking points from both sides of the RFS argument.

Panel Questions McCarthy on Scientific Basis for Rules
by: Brownfield News

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy was under fire during a House Science Committee hearing on Wednesday.  The hearing examined the EPA's regulatory agenda and the scientific justifications for the regulations.

Michigan Representative John Moolenaar pressed the Administrator on the final Clean Water Rule, formerly referred to as Waters of the US (WOTUS).  "I think it's a pretty strong indication when the majority of Congress has voted to disapprove of the rule and 32 states are suing over that rule," he says.
