How Pet Therapy Can Help Stroke Survivors

'Working with therapy dogs can assist stroke survivors in their physical and cognitive recoveries and lift their spirits.

'"People will think 'Oh, I'll brush the dog' but really what they're doing is their arm and hand exercises, says Karen Stalmann, who has been working with therapy dogs for 15 years. 

'Stalmann, who lives in Thornton, Colo., is a volunteer with a nearby Easterseals program. She visits rehab centers and brings her German shepherd to visit and cheer stroke survivors.  "People do get to relax and get soothing relief from an animal," Stalmann says.'  Read more>>

Shining Stars
Trish, Ed, & Buster Fronczowski
Trish, Ed, and their therapy companion, Buster, joined PAWS in December 2015. This team regularly visits Foulk Manor North and Lil Learners Family Childcare through PAWS in the Workplace. This trio also represent PAWS at many community events. What a great team!
A my Celona & Wesley
Amy and Wesley, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, joined PAWS in April of 2016. As an Advanced team, Amy and Wesley visit at the Delaware County Court House, Exceptional Care for Children and the Atglen Library and Avon Grove School District where they do PAWS for Reading. They also enjoy PAWS many community events and can often be found at DeStress sessions. Amy also serves PAWS as a First Visit Assistant and is working toward becoming a trainer for new PAWS teams. Together, Amy and Wesley earned their Master's Certification in February of 2017. This is truly a fantastic team!
