The Nonprofit Network is pleased to announce our first two Nonprofit Know-How sessions of 2017, the annual series of fast, free, and focused training on current topics.

Nonprofit Know-How: Advocacy & Lobbying will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Community Foundation. We welcome back presenter Paul Thelen, JD, Assistant Director at the Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center. Session includes: Differences between nonprofit advocacy and lobbying, rules and regulations for Iowa nonprofits, and benefits of advocacy and lobbying. For more information click here. Nonprofit Know-How: Board Boot Camp, sponsored by TD&T CPAs and Advisors, P.C., will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Community Foundation. We welcome back presenter Kari McCann Boutell, President of the Iowa Council of Foundations. Executive Directors and Board Chairs or Executive Committee members are encouraged to attend together. Summer Grant Applications Due June 15
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation announces its second grant cycle for 2017 for local charitable nonprofits. Applications will be accepted through Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. Grants will be awarded to organizations that enhance the quality of life in Linn County. For more information, click here.

Iowa Women's Foundation Now Accepting Grant Applications for 2018 Awards
The Iowa Women's Foundation is accepting applications for 2018 grants for projects focused on primarily serving the needs and aspirations of women and girls. Six specific areas have been identified as the most critical barriers for Iowa women and girls, and all grant applications must address one of these barriers. They include: employment, childcare, housing, education/training, transportation, and mentorship. Applications are due at 5 p.m. on May 31, 2017. Find more information here.

LIV 2017 May Conference May 15
Leaders In Volunteerism will hold their May conference on Monday, May 15, 2017, from  8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at PCI in Cedar Rapids. Cost is $25 for LIV members and $35 for non-members. Find out more information, including agenda and speakers, and register here.

Nonprofit Database User Group Invites New Members
A new database user group has formed, focusing on the Donor Perfect platform, but open to all database administrators. The next meeting is Wednesday, May 17, at 12:15 p.m. at the County Inn and Suites, 9100 Atlantic Drive SW, Cedar Rapids. The May discussion topic is Screen Designer. The group meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 12:15 p.m. to approximately 1:15 p.m. at varying locations. City of Marion Now Accepting Hotel/Motel Grant Applications
The City of Marion is now accepting grant applications from organizations that work to increase tourism within Marion. Applications will be accepted online here through May 12, 2017. Find more information here.

Fairfax USA Days Street Fair and Parade Offers Free Entry for Nonprofits
Fairfax USA Days will hold a street market on Saturday, June 24, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Fairfax, with a parade at 11:30. There is no fee for 501(c)3 nonprofits for a 10x10 booth space and/or parade entry. ATD Nonprofit Training Day Coming June 8
The Association for Talent Development (ATD) Hawkeye Chapter will hold the 6th Annual Nonprofit Training Day on June 8 at the Mt. Mercy University Graduate Center in Cedar Rapids. The purpose of this event is to provide a day of learning and growth to those who work for, or volunteer for a nonprofit organization. See more information below.

Discussion will provide explanations of the regulations and example scenarios to facilitate discussion.

Have you heard about the Cedar Rapids Public Library's challenge to Take On Literacy in celebration of their 120th year? Tanager Place is taking on literacy; how will your nonprofit or group participate?

"The Lending Library for Children project at Tanager Place provides opportunities for children ages infant to 18 to access current, high-quality reading materials that is age and culturally appropriate. The project encourages reading by making age-appropriate books available to check out, read, and return. Children at our outpatient clinic can read their favorite book in the newly-created library nook or check out the books to read with parents and family at home. The project will reach over 100 children annually."
