Call for Football Volunteers

Spring is in the air and with that comes our favourite outdoor activities, like football season. Each year, Women's Centre volunteers usher Stampeders football games to raise funds for the Women's Centre.

Volunteers usher one game per month from June to November. For each game, we need between 36-40 women and men to sign up for 4-5 hours of volunteering. Individuals and groups are welcome. You get to enjoy the outdoors, watch a great game, and support women in your community all at the same time!

Click here if you are interested in volunteering.

An Evening with our Artist in Residence: Deborah Willis

We will be hosting an evening of readings and conversation with our new Artist in Residence, Deborah Willis. She is a Calgary-based author and has been a Peer Support volunteer at Women's Centre since 2015. Deborah will join us to read a part of her new book "The Dark and Other Love Stories" and answer questions from the audience afterwards.

We'll have snacks and child minding is available. This is a free event open to anyone who identifies as a woman.

Check out this article to read more about Deborah and her new book.

Canada's Poverty Reduction: Community Engagement

The Government of Canada has launched an online consultation process to engage with Canadians on key issues related to poverty. We are organizing a community engagement session so you have a chance to brainstorm answers to the survey's main questions with other women in your community. We'll talk about what poverty looks like in your neighbourhood, what your experiences are, and what changes you'd like to see. There will then be time available for you to submit your own official response on computers provided.

No children in this workshop please.

Women's Centre AGM: Thanks for attending!
Last week, we held our Annual General Meeting, welcoming our community to celebrate our accomplishments from last year and to kick off our 20th anniversary celebrations. Mayor Nenshi brought greetings from the City and encouraged us all to support women in our community.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers and supporters, we wouldn't be the vibrant community we are without you!

In this workshop we will talk about the meaning of self-care, the unique and small ways we can look after ourselves, and decorate our own self-care kits.

Come and join us for a fun night of board games. Meet some friends, share some stories, and learn some new games in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.

Capoiera | Thursdays, May 4, 11, 18 & 25 (6:30 - 8 pm)
Developed over 500 years ago by African slaves in Brazil, Capoeira has its roots in Afro-Brazilian culture and was said to be both a form of cultural expression and self-defense. Classes involve martial arts, muscle strengthening, self-defense and acrobatics, as well as music and rhythmic expression.

No children in these workshops, please. However, child minding is available at the Women's Centre on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 8 pm.
