Earth Month Donor Spotlight: Lynn Hale
Donate to HEC by April 30th & Your Gift Will Be Matched!
|
|
|
|
Having lived in Indiana for many years, Lynn Hale greatly appreciates how HEC focuses on issues specific to the Hoosier State.
She became especially interested in HEC after hearing our Executive Director, Jesse Kharbanda, speak to the League of Women Voters Muncie-Delaware County chapter, where she was also on a study committee that recommended opposing the proposed Mounds Dam - a position that the LWV ultimately took.
She was particularly impressed that in addition to opposing the dam, HEC's team proposed a viable alternative - the Mounds Greenway.
Along with her volunteer work with the LWV, Lynn enjoys gardening and traveling.
In addition to having lived in many Midwestern states prior to settling in Indiana, she enjoys traveling out west, particularly to enjoy our national parks.
A long-time HEC donor, Lynn recently decided to support HEC with qualified charitable distributions from her IRA.
The funds donated are not subject to income tax, (as IRA distributions that we're required to take beginning at age 70 ½ otherwise would be).
Lynn has found this to be an easy and advantageous way to support the causes she most cares about during her retirement.
Thank you for your longstanding and generous support of HEC, Lynn!
TAKE ACTION:
Join donors like Lynn in supporting HEC during the month of April and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar (up to $5,000 total), thanks to another treasured friend and generous supporter, Alice Schloss!
Setting up a gift to HEC through your IRA can be done with assistance from your lawyer or financial advisor.
To learn more about the benefits of supporting HEC this way, contact HEC's Senior Development Coordinator Sharlene Kipfer at (317) 685-8800 ext 116 or [email protected].

This is Your Last Weekend to Contact Governor Holcomb to Veto SB 309!
The immensely controversial anti-rooftop solar bill, SB 309, is getting closer to reaching the Governor's desk. We anticipate that, upon reaching his desk, he will act quickly one way or the other. This means that
you still have time
(though limited) to contact the Governor -- and urge him to veto SB 309.
TAKE ACTION:
1.) This Weekend:
- Email the Governor at [email protected]
- Share our Facebook post, which is pinned at the top of our page, so that your family and friends email him, too!
- Tweet: We urge you, @GovHolcomb, to side with the people of Indiana, who are overwhelmingly opposed to #SB309! #veto #insolar #Inlegis
2.) This Monday:
- Call the Governor - Leave a message with Ms. Katie Reed (317-232-4567)
If you need more background on SB 309, be sure to visit our dedicated page.

Join us on Saturday, April 29th for the People's Climate March Indiana!
In 2014, more than 400,000 Americans concerned about the impact of a rapidly changing climate on our world, joined together in New York City - along with many others all over the world - to raise their voice and demand climate action.
On Saturday, April 29th, we will bring our knowledge, passion, and our voices to Indianapolis with a unified message:
As our federal government takes a stunning turn in the wrong direction on climate change, Hoosiers must act.
With the Trump Administration determined to dismantle climate action at the federal level, it is ever more urgent that we take our concerns and voice them to everyone - our family, our friends, kindred spirits, our local governments, and beyond.
Now is not the time to give up - we must stand stronger than ever in our quest to steer our world onto a path that is sustainable, renewable, and healthy.
ALL. TOGETHER. NOW.
