Did You Know: Unattended Children Policy?
Mom and Child

One of the key service libraries provide is enrichment/educational programming for children.  Programs for children ages birth-high school are constantly being updated to offer activities from story time to crafts to STEM activities.  All public libraries strive to provide these experiences to all people by offering programs free of charge.

A public library is considered a place of public accommodation .  Wilton Library follows the state's law by requiring all children under the age of 12 to be accompanied by an adult.   Adults MUST remain in the building even when children are attending our programs.  This is one of the ways we keep programs free to all.

Meditate with Me
Miss Kathy recommends Meditate with Me by Mariam Gates

In this fact paced, go-go-go society, it's important for everyone, even young children, to take a moment and slow down.

Author Mariam Gates and illustrator Margarita Surnaite, have come up with this kid friendly introduction to meditation and mindfulness. Five endearing animal friends will help guide children through step-by-step instructions to relaxation. "Lift your shoulders to your ears. Flex your arms, and squeeze tight. Now let it all go, and be loose like spaghetti." They will focus on their breathing, listen to the sounds that surround them, and learn to calm their busy minds.
The gentle drawings, delightful metaphors, and easy to do anytime, anywhere techniques will have children and grown-ups alike practicing the art of meditation. Recommended for ages 4 and up.
