Monthly Newsletter
May 2017
Happy May, friends!  As we enter the month, we look ahead to a packed schedule here at Haygood!  The end of the school year and thoughts about summer vacation may be upon us, but the action doesn't stop at Haygood.  We look forward to enjoying this May with you and your families through worship, family activities, and group events.

This month will start off with a packed first weekend.  On Saturday, May 6th, we will host a "Family Field Day" on the plaza at 10:00 a.m.  More information about the fun filled day is below.  Then, on Sunday, May 7th, we will have Holy Communion worship at 11:00 a.m.  This month, the recently confirmed youth will assist us in worship and also help serve communion.  We look forward to having the confirmands be a part of this holy sacrament on May 7th.

As, we continue through May we will celebrate our mothers and graduates on Sunday, May 14th, at 11:00 a.m.  It's because of the mothers, or those in our lives that have shown motherly love, that our students stand in recognition on May 14th.  On this special Sunday, our children's choirs and handbell choir will provide special music.  Thank you to all those mothers that have touched our hearts and lives.

On May 21st, we will come together for "Bible Sunday".  At the May 21st Sunday worship service we will not only discuss the importance of the Bible on our faith, but also reconnect a former Haygood member with a Bible she received from Haygood over 70 years ago.  The story is amazing and one that you won't want to miss hearing.

In addition to the special worship services this month, there is a ton of activity going on in the life of Haygood.  Be sure to check out the latest updates below from the Children and Family Ministry, Youth Ministry, Mission Ministry, Recreation Ministry, and Weekday Children's Ministry.

We hope this May is filled with blessings for you and may we all continue to be a light of peace and love to others as we connect, explore, and make an impact with each of you and the community!  Blessings friends!

Upcoming Sunday Worship Services
Communion Sunday - May 7th
Confirmands Serving Communion

On May 7th, we will partake in Holy Communion.  All are welcome at the Lord's table.  During this service, some of our youth confirmands will assist in serving Communion.  As we gather at the table to remember Jesus's sacrifice and forgiveness of our sins, let's also celebrate the confirmands as they serve Haygood UMC through this Holy sacrament.  We will see you May 7th at 11AM.

Mother's Day Sunday - May 14th
Bring Your Photos of Your Mother or Motherly Figure

Sunday, May 14th, is Mother's Day!  We look forward to celebrating all the mothers and motherly figures in our lives during Sunday worship.  We all have been touched by someone that provided motherly love, care, and support to us.  Let's celebrate those mothers together on Sunday, May 14th at 11AM.  Bring along a picture of your mother or motherly figure.  You are invited to place the pictures in the sanctuary windows, so we can be surrounded by those we love so dearly.  Happy Mother's Day!

Graduation Sunday - May 14th

Friends, next Sunday, May 14 th , we will also honor and recognize those students that have graduated over the last year in the 11 a.m. worship service.  Whether it's high school, college, or graduate school, we look forward to celebrating your graduation achievement during worship.   We are happy and proud of you for all you've achieved through your hard work and  dedication.  Congratulation to all graduates!

Bible Sunday - May 21st

Sunday, May 21st, will be "Bible Sunday" at Haygood!  Not only will we discuss the importance of the Bible to our faith, but we will have a special Bible presentation during worship service.  Some 70 years after the Bible was first presented by Haygood to Barbara (Tatum) Oliver, it will be reunited with Mrs. Oliver.  The story behind the re-connection is amazing and one that you will not want to miss.  We look forward to welcoming you on "Bible Sunday"!

Sunday Morning Small Group Study
Wesley clearly stated that he did not want to distinguish Methodism from any "real Christian of whatsoever denomination." At the same time, Wesley knew that if the Methodist movement was to be established and grow, it must rest upon the solid foundation of gospel characteristics.

This study provides a focused strengthening of the world Wesleyan family, while written so that any Christian person or group could use it with blessing and benefit.  The "5 Marks of a Methodist" study runs until May 21st.

Visit Acts 29 any Sunday morning at 10 a.m. for great conversation!   Acts 29 meets in the Parlor, behind the sanctuary.

Thank You Haygood for the Support on the Habitat Build!!

On Saturday, April 22nd, the hard work, sweat, and prayers that went into this year's Habitat for Humanity build were recognized as the Valdez Family home was dedicated!

What an incredible show of support the Haygood congregation provided to this year's Habitat build.  The build has become a tradition at Haygood and we partnership we have with Habitat has grown stronger each year!  Thank you to all the volunteers that helped to make the lives of the Valdez Family increasingly blessed through your service.  We pray God's grace and blessings be on Valdez Family, their new home, and the Haygood community.

Intown Collaborative Ministries - Donate Today!

Haygood has a long history of supporting the Intown food pantry and you have shown tremendous support!

On Sunday, April 30th, Haygood showed its support of Intown at the 5th annual Arts and Eats fundraiser!  This event is an incredible way the community comes together to support those that are homeless, as well as those families and children that are hungry.

May we continue to remember those that are in need of support from this ministry.  Be sure to continue to place donations in the bins outside the gym so we can help Intown keep the pantry full.  Haygood is especially asked to contribute soup, juices, and snacks.
