of the blessed month of Ramadan.

The 15th of Sha'ban is special, or is it? Imam Mustafa Umar writes on this day, half a month before Ramadan.

Shura Council Member, Institute of Knowledge, has started a 'Welcoming Ramadan!' campaign to help the larger Muslim Community with questions they have about the holy month of Ramadan. To join the conversation, click here.

Another way to prepare for Ramadan, Spring Cleaning ! As the article suggests, Ramadan is a form of spiritual cleansing, what better way to start the month on a note of generosity by donating or giving what you can.



A WEEK TO APPRECIATE

This week, May 8th-May 12th is Teacher Appre ciation Week! Here are some ways  you can thank the teacher(s) in your life.

It is also Public Service Recognition Week, National Nurses Week, and National Economic Development Week!

Let us take the time to be mindful and grateful for all those who dedicate their lives and time to the betterment of others.

Muslim Speakers Network (MSN) is having a training this  Saturday, May 13th at Islamic Center of Reseda from 2pm-6pm. Join us to learn how you can become a Certified MSN Speaker!

Uplift Charity will host its Annual Gala, "Refugees Welcome", honoring their courage and maintaining their dignity at the Anaheim Hilton on Saturday, May. 13th. Support their important work, purchase your tickets or donate here.

Islamic Relief and UCLA MSA, are co-hosting an East Africa and Yemen Emergency Fundraising Banquet on Sunday, May 14th at the Four Points Sheraton in Los Angeles, CA. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.

CAIR released it's 2017 Civil Rights Report. Sadly, a nti-Muslim bias incidents in 2016 increased by 57 percent over 2015. One Muslim cook who wanted to stop the hate and bias started inviting strangers to dinner.

You may wonder, what's considered low income in Orange County, CA? Probably more than you think. Orange County opened it first year-round homeless shelter in Anaheim. The Anaheim Poverty Task Force, a faith-based initiative, has been working on having a facility like this since 2007. If you would like to have a facility in your area to assist homeless individuals, contact your county supervisors.

The International Basketball Federation, more commonly known by the French acronym FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball), is an association of national organizations which governs international competition in basketball.  FIBA met recently in Hong Kong and approved the wearing of headgear by Muslim and Sikh players.

If County jails weren't crowded enough, the OC supervisors voted to add ICE beds to OC jails to detain immigrants.
