Willamette Valley Medical Center continues to earn "A's" for Patient Safety
-Spring 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades-
The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health care system, today released new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide. Willamette Valley Medical Center (WVMC) was one of 823 hospitals to receive an "A" for its commitment to reducing errors, infections, and accidents that can harm patients.

WVMC is dedicated to patient satisfaction and patient safety by adhering to the national medical guidelines from the different specialty organizations for safe patient care. "In the past few years, the dedication to patient safety has been proven in the implementation of a dedicated employee who oversees the patient experience program for the entire hospital. Also an initiative was passed to have a nursing leader visit every inpatient prior to discharge to confirm that WVMC have met the patient expectations." Carolyn Lash, Chief Quality Officer said about the strides WVMC has made.

"The steps taken to improve patient safety and satisfaction are seen every day at WVMC. The hard work our leadership and employees have done to ensure that every patient who comes to our hospital is provided the highest quality care is exceptional. We are so happy to be able to reinforce our efforts with this great recognition. It is fantastic for our community to know that we are what we preach and that the 'You Mater. Amazing Care every time' motto is more than a tagline, it is a mission we fulfill daily." Peter Hofstetter, CEO said.

"Hospitals that earn top marks nationally in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, 'have achieved the highest safety standards in the country," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "That takes commitment from every member of the hospital staff, who all deserve thanks and congratulations when their hospitals achieve an 'A' Safety Grade."

Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to  more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
