We are in our final week of the "Engaging Young Professionals" series from Weblink International, with the fourth challenge, "Modes of Communication", which is an ever moving target!

From telephone calls to texting, each generation prefers to communicate in a different way. Since multiple generations will remain in the workplace for years to come, it is important to reach every generation in a way that works for them. Young professionals pose a unique challenge because they continue to change their preferred communication medium. To reach the younger demographic, you will need to keep up with the latest technologies.

The challenge

Hard to reach. Associations can reach their Boomer members over the phone and their  Generation X members via email, but young professionals don't particularly like either of  these traditional modes of communications. The younger generation is harder to reach  because they communicate through a variety of technological platforms.

Engagement Strategy

Be everywhere. According to The Millennial  Impact Report, a research project by Achieve and  Johnson Grossnickle & Associates, marketing to  Millennials requires a multi-channel approach.  Make your message available on several social  platforms, and make it shareable. You will be  placing information where it is easily found by  young professionals while increasing your  network size and allowing them to share your  communications with their peers.

Be brief. Since young professionals are regularly  bombarded with messages, it is wise to be brief
with them. Offer text alerts and post regularly to  Twitter to get the attention of younger audiences.

Money talks. Being the most educated  generation to graduate college in an economic  downturn, the younger professionals are  particularly careful with their money. Offering  financial incentives and discounts speaks
volumes to this generation.

One form of communication not addressed in this report is the kind that shows up in your mailbox, delivered by the mail carrier. I wonder how many millennials have received a piece of personal mail from someone other than Grandma.

Sincerely,

"Have you heard about supper clubs that have been popping up in San Diego and Los Angeles? Often times it's at an undisclosed location with an anonymous chef. Part of the excitement is that you are sharing your dinner with strangers. We combined that idea with a great experience we had near Mt. Rushmore a few years ago. We walked into a restaurant and it was completely prix fixe (a set menu at a set price). These concepts, plus Bob's love of a good filet mignon, are the basis of the after hours Sunny Side Supper Club," Kate told

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's landslide re-election win Tuesday led to inevitable speculation that he would join the crowded 2018 Democratic gubernatorial field. Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, with his high profile and access to the deep-pockets of Bay Area and Silicon Valley donors, is considered the front-runner in the race by the state media. But narratives suggesting why other likely candidates might win are easy to grasp.

Will L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti join crowded 2018 governor's race?

Last year, Palomar Health began the process to sell the Palomar Medical Center Downtown Escondido campus.  Several months ago, we received six bids for the 14-acre property. We had narrowed those bids to one buyer and began due diligence. We have been in constant discussion with the buyer during this time. We had hoped to announce a final agreement soon, but unfortunately the identified buyer has chosen not to move forward with the purchase.

Our broker is currently in discussions with several of the other interested bidders. While very disappointing, we are confident that Palomar Health will receive full value for the property. We are comfortable that the other bidders' plans will be compatible with the City of Escondido's vision for the property.

In the meantime, we will continue working on the thoughtful transition of services out of the Downtown Escondido campus to our other facilities.
