Regarding the selection of materials, I still see people painting when they should be galvanizing, using black iron pipe when they should use stainless and using steel when they should be using aluminum.
Capital budgets are always tight, and those managing capital budgets are rewarded for achieving the budget not building a facility easy to maintain.
Yet, time and again, it has been proven selection of materials or surface preparation can both be economical and long lasting with little to no maintenance. Galvanizing, aluminum and stainless steel just are not that expensive these days when compared to the alternatives.
