What's Happening in Boise School District

May 4:    On May 4th, the Idaho Nonprofit Center is hosting Idaho Gives Day in an effort to raise awareness for programs like the Boise Public Schools Education Foundation. Check out their  Idaho Gives webpage  and learn more about the Foundation's mission of supporting learning.




May 4:   Taft Elementary School, 3722 N. Anderson St. Boise,  will host a Culture Festival to celebrate the school's diversity, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Mladi Behar~Bosnian Dance Group (pictured) will be performing from 6:40-7:00 p.m. and the Boise Irish Dancers will be performing from 6:10 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Taft families are invited to attend. 



May 5, 6 & 13:   Capital High School Spring Plant Sale. All proceeds fund Capital High's Horticulture Program. A wide variety of plants will be on sale and there will also be a raffle drawing to win a porcelain succulent bowl.  









May 5:   School Lunch Hero Day.   Between preparing healthy food, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies and offering service with a smile, Boise School District nutrition professionals have a lot on their plate. To celebrate their hard work and commitment, schools will celebrate School Lunch Hero Day on May 5th. This day, celebrated annually since 2013, was designated by the School Nutrition Association and Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the "Lunch Lady" graphic novel series. School Lunch Hero Day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to 30 million of America's students each school day. 

May 5 & 6:  Frank Church High School annual Plant Sale. Friday, May 5th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 6th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.  All proceeeds fund the Frank Church High School Horticulture program.   Review a list of plants being sold

May 8:  Community Education's popular SPRING session enters its third week of classes. Review and enroll in one of hundreds of personal enrichment courses designed for learners of all ages! For more than 45 years, we've served as Boise's first choice for lifelong learning. Learn something new and meet new people by enrolling in a Community ED class! 


May 8-12:    National PTA Teacher Appreciation Week . Celebrate and recognize the dedicated teachers who make our Boise Schools so successful!  Use #ThankATeacher  and/or #TeacherAppreciationWeek on social media to recognize the dedicated teachers who serve our students each and every day. Recognize your student's teachers by donating directly to their classroom. You can donate online at  boiseschoolsfoundation.com .  Teachers use the funds for whatever is needed most in their classroom - from books and supplies, to technology needs. 


May 8:  Boise School Board meeting, 6 p.m., Boise School District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise. Some of the agenda items include presentation of Red Apple Awards to Cindy Lee, Business Teacher, Registrar & Records, Marian Pritchett School; Ruth Calnon, Federal Programs Consulting Teacher; Golden Apple Awards to Lisa Martin, Administrative Assistant, Whitney Elmentary School; and Tina Gould, Administrative Assistant, Mountain View Elementary School. When available, the complete meeting agenda will be posted online here. Public is invited to attend. 

May 8:  6th grade students from Koelsch Elementary School will participate in a field trip to the St. Al's Heart Clinic (1055 N. Curtis Road, Boise) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:05 p.m. to learn about general anatomy of the heart, causes of heart attack/stroke, common warning signs of a heart attack/stroke, ways to stay healthy and disease prevention, role of exercise, and diet & nutrition.   Koelsch PE Specialist Corinne Morgan will be leading the field trip, along with Koelsch staff and Koelsch family volunteers. May 9:  Fourth Annual Girls Powered STEM Event Camp:   Boise School District is pleased to announce the  Fourth Annual Girls Powered STEM Camp to be held this summer on  June 8th and 9th, 2017.   This is a free camp for girls entering into 4th, 5th or 6th grades in the 2017-18 school year.  Last year, registration for the camp filled up within an hour.  Registration opens online on  May 9th at 8:00 a.m.  for the first 150 students.

May 9:  The general public is invited to enjoy the sights and sounds of the District's outstanding music students and staff at this year's Music Week School Night Event , to be held at Taco Bell Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m. No tickets are required. This popular event will feature nearly 2,000 student performers, from 4th grade through 12th grade, performing in honors choirs, bands and orchestras. 

May 10 & 11:    White Pine Elementary School, 401 E. Linden St., will host a multi-cultural event to celebrate and recognize the diversity of the school.   White Pine Elementary School serves students from 28 countries, who speak 27 different native languages. In celebration of this, White Pine will display exhibits about these countries in the school's gymnasium on M ay 10th and May 11th . This event  is the collective effort of White Pine's English Language Learner (ELL) students and families, the White Pine Student Council, Whie Pine  Art Parents, and White Pine teachers. White Pine students will be visiting the gym throughout the two days, and White Pine parents are invited to join them. 

May 15:  Timberline High School Academic Assembly, 10 a.m., Timberline Auditorium.  This annual event celebrates and recognizes the many accomplishments of Timberline's outstanding students.




May 20:   North Junior High School, Clash of the Vikings, an annual race event with proceeds going to benefit North Junior High sports and additional academic materials not covered by the District.  






May 22:  Borah High School graduation ceremony, Taco Bell Arena, 7:00 p.m.

May 23:  Capital High School graduation ceremony,  Taco Bell Arena, 7:00 p.m.

May 25:  Booth-Marian Pritchett School graduation ceremony, 6:30 p.m., Timberline High Auditorium. 

May 26:  Timberline High School graduation ceremony, Taco Bell Arena, 7:00 p.m.

May 30:  Boise High School graduation ceremony,  Taco Bell Arena, 7:00 p.m.

June 1:  Frank Church High School spring graduation ceremony, Morrison Center, 7:00 p.m.

South Students Advance to National History Day Competition: South Jr. High 9th grade students Ari Dengler, Myla Denger, Luis Ruiz-Gomez and Rawaa Mahdi placed 2nd in the recently held National History Day in Idaho competition, qualifying them to compete in the National History Day Contest in Washington, D.C., June 11-15 .  The theme for History Day this year was "Taking a Stand in History" and the South team's research and performance was about instances of people standing up for the rights of immigrants and refugees in the United States. The South History Club is lead by World Studies Instructor Danielle Stoddard.  An account through the Boise Public Schools Education Foundation has been established to help raise funds for these South students to participate in the National competition. To donate, write "South History Club" in the comments section located on the Foundation donation website


Boise School District Summer School: Boise School District offers a wide variety of summer school classes for elementary, secondary and alternative secondary students to enhance their educational experiences beginning June 5th. Further information can be found on the 2017 Summer School website . In addition, the District offers a Summer Music Education program  that allows students to "jump start" or continue their music education during the summer months. Also, the District offers a Summer Driver Education program for students.

TEM Revolution Summer Camps:

Designed by Stanford and MIT graduates, STEM Revolution Camps (formerly known as STEMbusUSA) provide students with fun and engaging opportunities to explore science and technology with no experience needed.  Each camp is filled with exciting, hands-on experiences designed to build interest, knowledge, and technical skills the campers can take with them into the classroom and beyond.  The camps will run June - July 2017, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  For more information, visit www.stemrevolution.com/camps

STEM Related Summer Learning Opportunties:  Following is a list of STEM related summer learning opportunities for students:
Attention Booth-Marian Pritchett Graduates, Past-Students and Teachers:   Please join The Salvation Army on Thursday, May 11th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Pioneer Room, JUMP (Jack's Urban Meeting Place), 1000 W. Myrtle St., Boise, for the historic Daffodil Tea and Lunch in support of the Booth Marian Pritchett School Program for Pregnant and Parenting Teens. This unique partnership between the Boise School District and The Salvation Army helps ensure that teen moms (and dads) are able to stay in school and earn their high school diploma. 
  
Nearly 10,000 young women (plus their children) have been helped by this program over the last 96 years. Help share the word about this celebration, as the hope is to make the Daffodil Tea an annual tradition for not only past students, but everyone in our community whose life has been touched by Booth (formerly know as Booth Memorial Hospital) and the Marian Pritchett School.   

Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.BoothDaffodilTea.com.  Tickets are $40 for the general public, $20 for past-students and teachers.    There are also a few complimentary tickets still available for recent graduates.  Please call Kendelle Sundell at 383-4235 for more information.

2017 Distinguished Service Recognition Program: Each year, Boise School District recognizes District employees for their years of service to the children of the Boise School District. This year, the 2017 Distinguished Service Recognition Program recognizes the service of 126 individuals representing a combined total of 2,970 years of service.  We congratulate these staff members and honor their work in helping make Boise School District a high-performing and nationally recognized school district.
