A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Tena koutou.
Nga mihi nui o te ata, nga mihi nui ki a koutou.
A warm welcome above in Maori, an official language of the first nation people of my country of birth, New Zealand-Aotearoa. As incoming IFSPT President, I am privileged and honoured to lead such a great organisation for the next term. It is amazing to see how many member organisations (MOs) are now a part of IFSPT, and, without your support, IFSPT would not exist. The IFSPT member organisation that I am affiliated with is Sports & Exercise Physiotherapy New Zealand, but I am currently residing in Australia, where I am Head of Department for Exercise & Health Sciences at CQ University in Queensland. In this role I not only lead Physiotherapy, but also seven other Health Sciences disciplines.
My involvement with IFSPT already spans six years on the Executive Board (EB), and prior to becoming President I was Vice President. I would like to acknowledge the fantastic work that the previous two Presidents of IFSPT have performed in this role: most recently, Dr Nicki Phillips, and the inaugural president, Mrs Laetitia Dekker-Baker. Prior to joining IFSPT on the Executive Board, I was the President of Sports Physiotherapy New Zealand for 12 years.
I come to the IFSPT leadership role from a solid research and scholarship career in Sports Medicine, which has focused over the last 10 years in sports-related concussion. I am currently a Senior Associate Editor of the British Journal of Sports Medicine, a member of the International Advisory Board of JOSPT, and my work features in the global consensus tool (Sports Concussion Assessment Tool-SCAT) for identifying and managing athletes who have received a head injury or concussion.
I am privileged to have a great team around me on the Executive Board for the next term. New members Kristian Thorborg (DEN), Colin Paterson (UK), Luciana De Michelis (BR), and Carlo Ramponi (ITL), join existing members Treasurer Gordon Eiland (USA), Secretary Maria Constantinou (AUS), and Craig Smith (SA). Our Director of Marketing, who sits outside the EB, is Mary Wilkinson.
IFSPT has grown to be the global leader in Sports Physical Therapy in recent years, and that's mainly due to our MO partners. The recent World Congress in Sports Physical Therapy is testament to that, and to continue this growth, we need to offer more member benefits to individuals. That is something the EB will continue to work on, along with building relationships with major sporting bodies.
With the festive season almost upon us, I'd like to take the opportunity to wish you all very happy holidays with your family and loved ones. Make sure you take time for a break from work, and I wish you all the best from the IFSPT team for 2018.
It's going to be a cracker year...mate!

WCPT NEWS: PLANNING FOR GENEVA 2019
The call for focused symposia is now open. This is your opportunity to be involved in one of congress's key sessions, which include high profile speakers and draw large audiences to engage in lively discussion.
Lasting 90 minutes, each symposium is organised by a recognised expert in the field who leads
a coherent session with 3-4 speakers working together thoughtfully
to explore the latest practice, research, education and professional issues.
The call is open to any topic relevant to the profession. However, the
Congress Programme Committee (CPC)
is particularly interested in proposals addressing any of the following areas identified through the WCPT congress market research survey:
- advancing and defining the scope of physical therapy practice, including advances in technology and education;
- how physical therapy needs to change to meet the demands of the ageing population;
- the unique contribution of physical therapists in the physical activity agenda;
- challenging perceptions of pain management across the lifespan and across all fields of practice;
- innovative approaches to address health system funding issues.
The submissions should address the topic from an international/diverse perspective by including presentations from a range of countries and preferably from three different WCPT regions. Where applicable to the topic, priority will be given to symposia that
include perspectives from low-resource countries.
Please read the submission guidelines before submitting your proposal.
All submissions will be notified of outcome by 27th April 2018.

APPLY TO BECOME A REGISTERED INTERNATIONAL SPORTS PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Give your professional status a boost by registering as an International Sports Physical Therapist!
Members of approved countries - those with established national pathways - may apply to be recognized as a Registered International Sports Physical Therapist simply by purchasing a five-year registration certificate for 50 euros. These individuals are pre-approved. Your membership within your country's specialist pathway will be confirmed, and your certificate e-mailed to you for printing and display.

- Canada: SPC Credential Program
- Denmark
- Ireland: Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, Level 3 Accreditation in Sports Physiotherapy
- Italy: Italian Sport Physical Therapist accredited - 3th level of certification through GISPT SPT pathway
- New Zealand: Complete the Specialisation Pathway through the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand. Must complete specialisation in the Musculoskeletal Category. Applications for NZ Board MSK Specialty must have a sports focus with evidence provided.
