Greetings!

During this campaign, I have written that too often it has been Supreme Court judges who have made laws in Canada – not Parliament.

Lower Courts appear to be no exception.

Recently a Saskatchewan Court ruled that the provincial government does not have the right to fund non-Catholic students who attend Catholic schools, even though this has been the practice for decades.

In doing so, the Court kneecapped parents’ choices regarding the education of their children, especially in remote regions where other options may not be available.

But Saskatchewan’s Premier, Brad Wall, has determined that this ruling goes against the best interests of the people of Saskatchewan – and he is showing leadership.

Brad Wall is committed to invoking the Charter’s notwithstanding clause in order to defend the rights of parents and to do what is best for the people of Saskatchewan. I applaud him for that.

We need more conservatives like Brad Wall who aren’t afraid to stand up to Courts when bad rulings are made.

As legislators, we must always have the courage to act on what is best for the people we represent.

I have said that, as Conservative leader and as Prime Minister, I would pursue term limits for Supreme Court judges to ensure that Supreme Court judges do not overstep their mandate – and that there is accountability to Canadians for their rulings.

I have also committed to using the ‘notwithstanding clause’ when it is clearly in the best interests of Canadians.

Both Canadians and Parliament deserve a voice on the actions of the Supreme Court - I will give them that voice.

Donate today to help me make this happen.

Sincerely,
