From Mrs. Rowley
Congratulations to our 2

graders who will make their First Holy Communion on Saturday. We are looking forward to this beautiful ceremony. What a wonderful witness of young faith! Please keep them all in prayer. Next Thursday (May 18) our 2
nd
and 8
th
grades will pay homage to our Blessed Mother with our annual May Crowning during the 9:00 am school Mass. You are most welcome to join us for Mass and the Crowning.
With the end of the year approaching our classes are taking their end of year field trips: our prize winning band will to Kings Dominion on Friday where the advanced band will perform. On Monday our Kindergarten and 1
st
grade classes will visit the National Building Museum in DC. On Tuesday 6
th
grade will go on their annual outing to the Challenger Learning Center, and on Tuesday, June 6 our 3
rd
grade class will visit the National Zoo. We hope for good weather and safe travels for all of these field trips.
Next week is Shakespeare week at St. Ambrose School! Our 8
th
grade class, under the direction of Mrs. Greshock, will celebrate the great Bard, culminating with their performance of Much Ado About Nothing. The performance will follow the annual Shakespeare special dinner for performers and their parents, as well as the faculty.
On behalf of the staff and students of St. Ambrose School I would like to wish all of our mothers a blessed day on Sunday. May your day be filled with joy, family, and fun.
A blessing and prayer tribute to all mothers
Blessed be all mothers
Who have come into our lives
Whose kindness, care and loving
Remain with us to guide.
Your inspiration in us
Made us strive in every way
Especially to remember Helping others makes our day.
Mothers, this little tribute
Flows directly from my heart
You are so loved and cherished
Invaluable, one and all, you are.

From the Health Clinic
Mrs. Maureen Earner
([email protected])
Parents expect temper tantrums from 2- and 3-year-olds. But angry outbursts do not necessarily stop after the toddler years. Older children sometimes have trouble handling anger and frustration, too.
Some children only lose their cool once in a while, but others seem to have a harder time when things do not go their way. Children who tend to have strong reactions by nature will need more help from parents to manage their tempers.
Controlling outbursts can be difficult for children - and helping them learn to do so is a tough job for the parents who love them. Try to be patient and positive, and know that these skills take time to develop and that just about every child can improve with the right coaching.

Update from STEM Club
The weather forecast for the weekend was rain, rain and more rain, so our K-1
st
group made their own rain gauges. We discussed what a meteorologist does, different types of weather and weather instruments, including the rain gauge. We then examined the parameters for our rain gauges, namely: we did not want the rain gauge to tip over or blow away, and we needed a unit of measure so that we could determine how much it rained.
The kids were given recycled plastic bottles, markers, tape, string and zip ties, as well as pea gravel for the base. We then hung them on the preschool playground fence so we could monitor the amount of rain they collected all week!
