Reflection for Worship . . .

Trading Currencies
Mark 11:1-11

Our text for Palm   Sunday  is the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem for Passover - soldiers and the governor ride in on one side of town, a show of force to keep a potential rowdy crowd in line during a festival season.  Jesus comes with a few followers on the other side of town - a quiet entrance that mocks or mirrors the governor's entrance, bringing not military might but a new image of God and peace.  In a sermon entitled "Trading Currencies" we will look at a model of church developed by Eric H.F. Law in a book entitled "Holy Currencies" - where the church does not rely on money as its sole means of survival!  Instead, we are invited to trade the currency of money for other currencies that the church has to offer - telling the truth, offering space and time to others to share their gifts, graciousness in listening and offering help, wellness in a time of conflict and hatred.  What would it mean for us to act "on the other side" from our culture as the church - to use our currencies of grace, truth, wellness and time.  Comer join us in the Sanctuary for worship this Sunday at   10AM!

Rev. John H. Pomeroy

Also This Sunday:
Tara will be selling church t-shirts in the Narthex after worship on Sunday. Grab a new shirt for $15 (or whatever you can afford) and head to the park - we are headed to Mc Donald Park for our Palm Sunday picnic and egg hunt! Please join us directly after church (located at 1000 E. Mountain on the corners of Mountain/Bell/Wilson - just 1.5 miles from our church). We have reserved the tables under the pergola for our use. Bring: a side dish to share, a chair if you wish, an Easter basket for the egg hunt; carpool if you can! Drinks are provided as well as some main dishes. We will have a few games after the egg hunt. Many thanks to our Church School Teachers and Membership Ministry for organizing this fun event!

Lenten Small Groups Continue

Small groups continue to meet this week. Others are urged to read the book for their pleasure.

Chasing Francis is a modern tale for someone in a faith crisis, set against the story of St. Francis from the early 1200's.

Mountain Ave. on the corner of Bell/Wilson/Mountain in Bungalow Heaven, just 1.5 miles from our church.

Peace Parade on Palm Sunday

For the last several years, persons from our staff and congregation have joined in the Peace Parade here in Pasadena, providing a witness for the city for those issues and persons that have little or no voice - particularly victims of gun violence and those without housing. See the attached flyer and come join us as we walk in support of our neighbors and those in need of a stronger voice in our city!   The 16th Annual Pasadena Peace Parade is on Sunday, March 25th starting at 3 pm at the Reformation Church at 570 Orange Grove Blvd.

One Kit Saves Two Lives - Saturday, APRIL 7th,
9 - 2 P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church, 1211 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale.

It's an incredible human tragedy.
aid africa Over a million African babies are estimated to die in the first 4 weeks of life - up to half on the first day. Many babies are not named until six weeks of life so the mourning of mothers and families is often hidden. And 1 in 13 mothers die of causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.

Imagine that - you can SAVE TWO LIVES! But to pull it off, we'll need volunteers to assemble kits and lots of generous sponsors to help cover the cost. Will you join us in purchasing and/or assembling kits?

A Sponsor kit is just $10 including shipping,

                                                    Memorial Service for Ann Appley

If you would like to lend a hand with the service please let Pastor Marlene know.

Looking Ahead- Save the Dates!

FID will host the Annual Pasadena Mayor's Prayer Breakfast. Several hundred leaders and folks from our city will be on hand to hear a featured speaker and the work of FID at 7:30 am at the Pasadena Convention Center. Elizabeth Lanski and Marlene Pomeroy are planning to attend. If any others would like to register and sit with us please let us know ASAP!

On Monday May 7th FID will host a golf fund-raiser at the Glendora Country Club at 9:30 am.
You may find more info and will be able to sign up for either event at www.friendsindeedpas.org

Hollywood Bowl Outing for Summer 2018

Yes, it's that time to purchase our tickets to the Bowl. Membership Ministry (Kevin, Tara, Lu, Kim and Marlene) have chosen Jennifer Hudson on Saturday July 7th as an event for us to attend together. We have 15 tickets - sign up quickly and we can always purchase a few more (in past years we were allowed to return unused tickets but this year we have to buy in advance). We have great seats in P1 for $36 each. There is some scholarship money to supplement those for whom the price is too high, so please speak with Pastor Marlene for a reduced price ticket. The time is 8 p.m. and of course we will go ahead of time and picnic. Join us!!
