RETIREMENT NEWS
During Teacher Appreciation Week, it is appropriate to communicate how Hales Corners Lutheran will be celebrating our retiring teachers, Mrs. Margaret Hammer, a 1st grade teacher at our Elementary School, Mrs. Ann Jobst, a 3rd grade teacher at our Elementary School, and Mrs. Debby Farrar, a 4th grade teacher at our Elementary School. These women have been servant leaders sharing their gifts and talents with their students and their families every day.

We will celebrate and honor these women of God at the "Fine Arts Festival" night on Friday, June 2. We will also recognize Margaret, Ann, and Debby at our Sunday  morning church services on June 4. We invite you to join us during those times as we recognize their years of service.

You are encouraged to write cards or letters that share how much their service to God and to your family has meant. These can be dropped off at any school office to be given on Sunday, June 4. We are also collecting a monetary gift for each teacher. If you are interested in contributing to this gift, you can drop your donation off in an envelope marked "Teacher Retirement" at any of our campuses. Please make a note for which teacher(s) your gift is to be given. Thank you for taking the time to share in the joy of these outstanding educators who have given so much of their lives in service to the church and God's ministry.

Prayer Request
I  wanted to share with you a bit of news.  Mrs. Diana Bartholomew has been extended a call to be the principal at Faith Lutheran Academy in Las Vegas, NV beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. She now has two calls; one to Hales Corners Lutheran and one to Faith Lutheran.  While God knows full well His plan for her ministry, she and her husband will seek His wisdom and guidance as they discern His plan.  I ask that you would join in prayer that God would make His plan clear and that they put their faith and trust in Him to follow His will for their lives.

Faith Ink Parent Forums on 5/11 and 5/22
At HCL, Faith Ink has guided our middle school students from First Communion through their public Confirmation. As we move into the 2017-2018 academic year, we are making adjustments to this program that will better serve families and our young people and we want to hear from you! Parents of 5th-7th grade students are invited to join Pastor Leon at one of two Faith Ink Parent Forums on Thursday,
May 11 or Monday, May 22, from 7:00-8:00 pm to learn more about the plan for the years ahead and share your input.
Faith Ink has existed to reach all youth, to connect them with other Christians, to help them grow in their faith, challenge them to discover their ministry, and honor God with their life. Simply, it provides 6th-8th grade students the opportunity to make their faith in Jesus Christ personal. At this "Future of Confirmation" forum, we want to share about the rationale and plan for the years ahead and your attendance, input and clarifying questions will be a valued part of shaping what's ahead for our confirmands and families.
Forums will be held on Thursday, May 11 or Monday, May 22, from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Sanctuary at the Janesville Road campus, so pick the date that works best for you and your family and be with us for these important conversations. For more information, contact Sonia Beaumont at  sbeaumont@hcl.org. We look forward to seeing you!

National Day of Prayer
This past Thursday, we observed the National Day of Prayer with a variety of activities. We started our day with the ringing of the bells. Thank you to our Children's Handbell Choir and Mrs. Granley. Throughout the day, each class had a short prayer time in the chapel. Our 4th grade students led our students and visitors in a Prayer Service held in the chapel during the afternoon. These events were made possible through the wonderful leadership of Mrs. Czernicki, Mrs. Farrar, and the 4th grade students. We also thank Mrs. Brunner and Mrs. Terlion who took care of many of the "clerical items" for us. Thank you!

THANK YOU
What a wonderful and generous outpouring of appreciation this week for the teachers at the Elementary School! Beautiful door decorations, a colorful baseball field at the atrium entrance, recess duty covered, a delicious lunch, an appreciation station filled with treats each day, and thoughtful gifts from students. We are so thankful for the love that was shared with us and are blessed by the wonderful parents and families that we serve. A special "thank you" to Sheryl Dolezal and the CPAL board for organizing the week's activities carried out by many parents.

7th and 8th Grade Dance
We look forward to seeing our seventh and eighth graders next Friday evening, May 12, for the dance from 7-9:00 pm in the Community Center.  The teachers have agreed to chaperone the dance, but of course parents are welcome to come in to take a few pictures at the beginning.  We also welcome all families to help clean up after the dance, usually less than a half hour if we all work together! Thank you!

7th Grade Families - Help Needed
Seventh graders are asked to bring in a donation for the graduation dance on Friday, May 12 Students in 7K are asked to bring either water or fruit juice pouches/juice boxes. Students in 7D are asked to bring a snack such as chips or pretzels or a dessert such as cookies or brownies (ready to serve). Thank you for your help!  Our donations allow all students to enjoy the dance without needing to pay for anything that night

8th Grade - Picture Day this Monday!
A reminder that next Monday, May 8, is picture day and then we leave for the Kalahari! The 8th grade class will be getting their class picture taken at 9:00 am with individual pictures to follow.  The students may enjoy a late start that morning and should be dressed appropriately for the pictures and seated in their homeroom before 9:00 am. The class picture is formal: ladies should wear dresses or skirts and gentlemen need shirts and ties. The individual pictures are informal  (dress code applies). They will be allowed to change their clothes after the class picture if desired. Big thanks to the Lewisons for taking the pictures!
