Say: Thank You

A Note From Pastor Linda

"I thank my God every time I remember you..." Philippians 1.3

Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ~

Do me a favor on Sunday:
Say THANK YOU to Pastor Jen... and to Rob... and to Kelsey... and to Roxanne... and to Susan... and to Nick and to Reid.

Do this for me. Why? First, because they are amazing people and serve YOU! Second, in my absence they have stepped up and taken on additional responsibilities. (Did you even know I was gone?) They have not asked to be thanked, but I think they would appreciate it.

Consider this... (from Luke 17):

When Jesus encountered ten lepers on his way to Jerusalem, all ten asked to be healed. All ten obeyed Jesus' command to go show themselves to the priests. As the lepers went to the priests, all ten were healed. However, only one returned to thank Jesus. That seemed to surprise Jesus, "Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they?" Jesus did not heal the lepers for the thanks. But he really appreciated it when one returned and remembered his manners.

Who taught you to say THANK YOU? For me, my parents! Thanks, mom and dad! As I watch my daughter and her husband raise Evie, I see them teaching her to say THANK YOU, both with words and sign language. (Yes, she is advanced ;-)!)

In Scripture, the parents of the leper who returned and gave thanks are never mentioned and yet the fruit of their teaching is apparent. I can imagine the many times that his parents had to remind him of the importance of giving thanks. I can hear them saying: Son, tell them thank you. And the son's response: Do I have to? They know! And their reply: You need to tell them. They need to hear it from you! As this child grew into adulthood, these lessons paid off as he was the one who returned to Jesus. Yes, all the lepers were healed, but this one had an encounter with Jesus, and was blessed because of it.

So, here's an idea:
  • Say THANK YOU to those people who serve you- at church, at the restaurant, at the grocery store...
  • Say THANK YOU to those people in your life who have taught you to say THANK YOU!
  • Say THANK YOU to God for loving the world so much that he sent his Son, Jesus- to live and love and serve among us and teach us how to live, love and serve so that all may know Him!
Me? I say THANK YOU--- for the many ways that you live and love and serve!

Thank you!

 ~Pastor Linda
