AIM Golf Tournament rescheduled for May 21

After being postponed from May 7 due to inclement weather, the AIM Golf Tournament has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 21, and there are openings for teams that want to play.
The captain-and-crew tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Elmira Country Club.
This year's tournament will feature The Million Dollar Shot, presented by Perry & Carroll. One player will be randomly selected immediately following the tournament to take a 165-yard shot to win $1 million. Also, any player who makes a hole-in-one on any of the par 3s during the tournament will win $2,500.
There will also be skins and closest-to-the-pin and long-drive contests.
The top teams will win prizes, and there will be a raffle with dozens of prizes including a 55-inch Vizio 4K Ultra HD TV and four Disney World Park Hopper passes.
The entry fee is $320 per team, which includes 18 holes with a cart, lunch and dinner at the country club. Proceeds support AIM's programs and services.

Students from Transitions Program take part in
'Dancing for the Cause'

Youths from AIM's Transition Program Peer Group recently participated in "Dancing for a Cause," a benefit event in Ithaca.
The event is a fundraiser for the Crisisline, a hotline operated by Suicide Prevention and Crisis Service that offers free counseling for people in emotional distress in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes.
The AIM group included 11 students with disabilities who worked with Vani Akula and her son, Abhishek Akula, of Horseheads, to learn Indian folk dance.
The group then performed during "Dancing for the Cause," held in downtown Ithaca on April 1.
The AIM group got to see dance performances from many other cultures during "Dancing for the Cause," said Becky Gilbert, AIM's Transitions Program coordinator.
"Many of the students have not had the opportunity to work on such a project, and after the event, they were pleasantly surprised at how much fun this event was. They realized that they brought joy to others and in the process learned a lot more about themselves," Gilbert said.

Paradise Island Prom is Friday evening

The Paradise Island Prom is set for 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 12 at the Elmira AIM office, located at 350 W. Church St.
The prom is open to youths ages 14 to 21 who have a disability, and there is a $3 cover charge to attend. There will be pizza, drinks, a DJ, and tropical décor. Dress can be formal or casual. Chaperones will be present.

Consumer Picnic set for June 3 at Eldridge Park

AIM will host its annual Consumer Picnic from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 in the pavilion at Eldridge Park in Elmira.
Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to pass. There will be fun activities and a 50/50 raffle, and the Eldridge Park attractions will be open.

Youth summer camps planned

AIM will host three free, weeklong camps this summer for youths ages 14-21 who live at home and have Office for People with Developmental Disabilities eligibility.
The camps will focus on building social and communication skills. Lunch will be provided.
The schedule:
Schuyler County: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 26-30, Human Resources Complex, Montour Falls.
Steuben County: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 24-28, AIM office, 271 E. First St., Corning.
Chemung County: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 22-26, AIM office, 350 W. Church St., Elmira.

AIM is seeking new members for its board of directors.
AIM's goal is to develop a board that has diverse experiences, perspectives, connections and skills. Candidates are sought from a wide array of personal and professional backgrounds.
Board members must reside in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben or Allegany counties. The board meets at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, except July and December. Board members serve two-year terms and can expect to devote four hours per month to AIM.
