Sterling First at The Regency
|
The new Pastoral staff of Sterling First Church of the Nazarene kicked off their first week on the clock by planting an affiliate congregation church plant in a local skilled care and rehabilitation center, Regency Care of Sterling. Together with the Chaplain group of the Sterling Nazarene Church, the group meets every Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. to hold a service with the residents of the facility. Pastor Jeremy McLaughlin, Lead Pastor, and Pastor John Wright, Associate Pastor, share in the preaching responsibilities, bringing a Biblical message to the residents, while they and the chaplains also lead a time of singing of old hymns with those who attend. After the very first service, one memorable comment was made from a resident who said with excitement, "Well, I feel like I've been to church today!" It is the hope of the pastors, staff, and volunteers at Sterling First Church of the Nazarene that this church plant will serve as a catalyst for other church plants in Whiteside County.

Sunday School Discipleship International
|
"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
As you are going,
THINK BIG:
Every relationship, every interaction, all inclusive.
And make disciples,
START SMALL:
You. Be one. Be a Christ-like disciple. Re-present Jesus.
Baptizing them, immersing them in Jesus,
GO DEEP:
Pray. Empty yourself. Sacrifice.

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Jesus
John 10:10 (NIV)
"That is what discipleship is all about. It is the ongoing process of submitting all of life to Jesus, and seeing Him saturate your entire life and world with His presence and power. It's a process of daily growing in your awareness of your need for Him in the everyday stuff of life. It is walking with Jesus, being filled with Jesus, and being led by Jesus in every place and in every way."

Over the past three years, more than 400 Nazarene congregations around the world have participated in Freedom Sunday, a day set aside for prayer, worship, and support around the crisis of human trafficking, which enslaves as many as 45.8 million people globally, according to the
2016
Global Slavery Index.
This year, Nazarene churches are encouraged to participate in Freedom
Sunday on
September 24, 2017, the last
Sunday of that month.
The Church of the Nazarene's participation in Freedom Sunday began in 2014 in coordination with other denominations within the Wesleyan Holiness Connection (formerly Wesleyan Holiness Consortium). That same year, the Church of the Nazarene's Board of General Superintendents endorsed the Declaration for Freedom, a document drafted by the Wesleyan-Holiness leaders, including Nazarene representatives.
In the past, Freedom Sunday took place on the first Sunday of Lent. This year, the event was moved to the last Sunday of September to enable churches that plan traditional Lenten services to participate.
Congregations are encouraged to plan a Freedom Sunday at any time that works in their calendar. Freedom Sunday planning resources are available as free downloads through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries at ncm.org/freedomsunday.

For generations, Nazarenes have supported the World Evangelism Fund. Together, we've accomplished so much in our first 100 years. Join us on a journey into the next 100 years and partner with the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations. In our new plan for Funding the Mission, the World Evangelism Fund is the vehicle through which we deliver the message of hope - and your church drives our mission more than ever before.

"We had a wonderful convention today! Great leaders, speakers, and workshops. Such fun seeing old friends and meeting new ones from other churches in our distric
t." Everyone was given a chess piece at Convention. What role do you play in the church? Every piece is important! Be a pawn for the Lord instead of a king in your own kingdom! What's your next move?
-Rock Island Church
"When others may see failure and defeat, my District Superintendent Rev. Scott Sherwood encourages his pastors to see an opportunity to learn and try again! I am blessed to follow such a wise man of God. At the same time he follows another great leader of our global church Dr. Bob Broadbooks a gentle caring man, who encourages us to love the "nations" with a heart of missions. It doesn't matter if the "nations" are already among us or abroad. Love them the same!!" Laura Mata-Bolandi
on the move...
|
"Every piece serves a King, even if it must sacrifice itself to protect the King. Some pieces and some people seem to float across the board making a difference in the kingdom with every move. Some of us can feel like pawns, moving slowly, not important. But then I think of faithful people who made big differences in my life by living each day as the King wanted them to live. So, what is your next move?" - Renee Kindle, NWIL-NMI President
|
"THINK BIG, START SMALL, GO DEEP is our strategy moving forward as a council as we lead the district in a culture of discipleship and intentional, relational discipleship multiplication. It's the same strategy God used. God thought BIG - His desire being to save the entire world. He started SMALL, with a poor family and a baby in a manager. And He went DEEP, sacrificing His only Son for each one of us.
And that is the place each one of us starts with the Great Commission!
As you are going, As you are on the Move with Jesus: THINK BIG: Every relationship, every interaction, all inclusive. And make disciples: START SMALL: You. Be one. Be a Christ-like disciple. Represent Jesus. Baptizing them, immersing the in Jesus: GO DEEP: Pray, Empty yourself. Sacrifice." - Ellyn Book, NWIL-SDMI Chair
NYI discussing the biggest obstacles that keep us from serving the cities that we live in. We need to see the potential of what being "on the move" can do to our communities and not just do what we are comfortable with.

Submerge from Pekin First lead us to worship. The Spirit was very evident through out the day of Convention.

Note: If you have a Nazarene/MinistrySafe certificate dated July 1, 2015 or after, you will NOT have to do the training again. BGS calls for prayer, fasting ahead of General Assembly 2017
|
The Church of the Nazarene will hold its 29th General Assembly and Conventions this June in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The quadrennial event will bring together thousands of Nazarenes from the denomination's 162 world areas. In advance of this important event, the Board of General Superintendents is asking Nazarenes around the world to set aside every Friday afternoon, from 24 March through 23 June, as a time of fasting and prayer for General Assembly 2017 and to pray daily during the assembly, Sunday, 25 June through Thursday, 29 June.
In addition to praying that every service will be blessed with God's manifest presence, please include the following specific requests as you pray:
- Pray for global political stability as well as protection for our event. We also pray that the delegates from all world areas where the Church of the Nazarene has ministry will be able to travel with safety and without obstruction.
- Pray that the intended focus of General Assembly 2017-strengthening our evangelistic perspective-will be realized.
- Pray that the Lord will use this "sacred assembly" to revive and renew our global church family as we gather for worship each evening and Sunday morning, celebrating One Body, One Spirit, One Hope, One Lord, One Faith.
- Pray for the Lord to guide and anoint the Monday Delegate Commissioning Service, the State of the Church message, and all the General Assembly 2017 elections and decisions.
- Pray for the conventions that are a part of this event: Nazarene Missions International (NMI), Nazarene Youth International (NYI), and Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International (SDMI). These global ministries convene to strengthen both their mission and impact, as well as to celebrate the blessings of God experienced around the world.
- Please offer continuing prayers for the official business sessions of General Assembly 2017. Pray that our delegates will be enriched by heavenly wisdom, the camaraderie of the spirit of fellowship, and continued commitment to the mission of making Christlike disciples.

General Assembly One Heart - Many Hands
|
The Church of the Nazarene believes in empowering laypeople to serve. This is evident around the world, including the tens of thousands of Nazarenes mobilized through the One Heart - Many Hands service projects over the last 24 years.
OHMH is calling all past, present, and future volunteers to join in a Work & Witness project in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, June 18 to 23, 2017, the week prior to the denomination's General Assembly and Conventions.
This project will kick off a new, five-year initiative to repair, rehab, and rebuild more than 400 homes and build 20 new homes in the 46201 zip code.
Communities in this zip code are dotted with dilapidated or abandoned homes. Single parents, many of whom live below the poverty line, dominate the population. Help is sorely needed, but not easily available.
"What we do now will not only have a positive impact today, but will plant seeds of change that will continue growing for generations," said George Sisler, OHMH president.
In 1993, OHMH founder Dr. Gary Morsch organized the first weeklong service project to accompany a Church of the Nazarene General Assembly. That project, also in Indianapolis, included about 25 locations. At the 20th anniversary project, there were more than 120 project locations and 1,800 volunteers.
The next project in 2017 is slated to be one of the largest yet with 2,000 volunteers. This project is perfect for individuals or groups of any size, and volunteers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Early registration ends January 31 and is $195.
