A professional development experience for Math and Science teachers that showcases a new way to teach logic. A free Stanford-developed online curriculum used in the PD could be taught as a standalone course or embedded in a larger course. Suitable for grades 9-12.
WHY LOGIC training for teachers?
TIMING IS RIGHT: Stanford has developed a breakthrough new approach for introducing logic based on Herbrand Semantics that makes this difficult subject accessible to high school students
DEMAND: Logic is a life skill that high school students need to succeed in the subjects they study, the professions and jobs they pursue, and the decisions they make. Logic is to computer science as calculus is to Physics.
LOCATION: Stanford's campus, where we use its classrooms and draw on the resources of Silicon Valley and the Bay Area.
TIME-TESTED MATERIALS. The course has been taught at Stanford University for over twenty years, and it is now offered as a MOOC that has attracted over 500,000 enrolled students.
LIMITED ENROLLMENT. As we are limiting registration to 24 teachers, you will benefit from individual attention and small class size.
PROGRAM
Rigorous introduction to logic from a computational perspective covering propositional, relational, and Herbrand logics
Already part of a University of California approved course
Standalone course already tested in schools in California and New Jersey
ELIGIBILITY
Teachers engaged in teaching mathematics, philosophy or computer science for grades 9-12
