Based on Federico Fellini's Academy Award-winning film 8½, Nine focuses on celebrated film director Guido Contini, who is dealing with a mid-life crisis, numerous faltering relationships, including a failing marriage, and his increasingly futile attempts to come up with a plot for his next movie after a number of box office flops. The original Broadway production won five Tony Awards in 1982, including Best Musical.

A blend of devilish humor, romance, murder, and music, No Way to Treat a Lady features a publicity crazed actor turned serial killer, and the detective who pursues him.

From Christine Dolen's (Sun-Sentinel) Review:

"Part of the fun for two of the show's actors is that they get to show off their versatility by slipping from one identity to the next. (James) Hansen's Kit is a psycho and a bad actor - not an easy combo - but in disguise Kit presents himself as an Irish priest, a Spanish dance instructor, a utility worker, a gallery employee and others. His Kit is a kind of one-man Village People.

(Kimberly) Abrams gets to play both of the nagging mothers and the various murder victims. Director Peter J. Loewy seems to have given her a key note - "go over the top" - for most of the gals, but many of the real older ladies in the audience find it a hoot when Abrams hits the stratosphere.

Gender And The Pulitzer Prize
A Yearlong Play Reading Series

Arguably the most prestigious award for recognizing  excellence in journalism, literature, music, and photography, the Pulitzer Prize is  currently enjoying its 100th birthday. To participate in the centenary festivities, Thinking Cap Theatre proudly presents  GAP - A Yearlong Play Reading Series  that  spotlights and examines Pulitzer plays by women.

The Pulitzer Prize Board has awarded a prize in the category of drama 86 times in
the past 100 years.  Of the 86 award-winning  plays, only 15 (17%) were penned in full or in part by a woman;  Thinking  Cap's GAP Series  will feature a staged reading of 11 of those 15 plays by women.

The  GAP series will run through December 2017 at The Vanguard Sanctuary for the Arts.
The readings will take place once per month on a designated Sunday at 1 pm. There
will be talk backs with cast and director, moderated by a dramaturge, directly following
each reading.

A full schedule of readings and dates is available at  www.thinkingcaptheatre.com .

The next reading in the GAP Series will be on  Sunday, May 28 at 1 pm with Crimes of the Heart , the 1981 Pulitzer prize-winner by Beth Henley.

Degas.  Monet.  Renoir.  These Impressionists painted the indelible images that have lasted for centuries.     With Impressions, Michael Leeds employs three exceptional actresses - Patti Gardner, Barbara Sloan, and Karen Stephens - to bring to life the women in their paintings.  From a Degas dancer to a Monet matron, Impressions imagines who these women are and what they're thinking.  Art literally brought to life.

On a barren stretch of road, near a single nondescript tree, two vagabond men wait for someone or something named Godot.  Their hope seems to be that the mysterious Godot will change their lives for the better.  Two strangers arrive, one man at the end of another's rope. A boy also appears and disappears.

The simplicity of the description of Waiting for Godot belies its depth and complexity. Critics, scholars, and audiences have read numerous interpretations into Beckett's work - philosophical, religious, political, and social references have been cited and discussed since the play's world premiere in Paris in 1953 - it was Beckett's first professionally produced play - and its North American premiere at Florida's Coconut Grove Playhouse in 1956.  In a poll conducted by the British Royal National Theatre in 1990, Waiting for Godot was voted the 'most significant English language play of the 20th century.'

Waiting for Godot :
"As you turn this play over and over, trying to identify head from tail, the talent and hard work of the cast and crew is hard to ignore. Under Rosalie Grant's sharp direction, the quintet execute Beckett's difficult but rewarding work with aplomb. Taxing on the body and complex on the mind, the actors make physical comedy and choreographed movements look easy. It's not."

"Tommy Koenig is so talented and energetic as a performer, and has such an insightful and entertaining take on American pop culture, his show was a joy to watch from beginning to end."  The Jewish Journal, May 2016

Comedy Central/National Lampoon star Tommy Koenig's 'one man musicomedy',
Baby Boomer Baby is an energetic, entertaining, and very funny 'flashback through our times and the music that defined them'.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953, the year Rock and Roll was born, and raised in Rockaway Beach, the son of a musician who played with Glenn Miller during World War II,  Koenig was greatly influenced by chance meetings with John F. Kennedy and later George Carlin, and mostly by what the Beatles brought - the influence of music on Boomers' culture and personal choices.  In Baby Boomer Baby Koenig recounts the years he struggled to keep up with the changing times, just missing Woodstock by a few miles; the rites of passage of College, Travel, Sex, and Drugs; and the ever changing cultural and political landscape that music unleashed as it morphed from Disco to Punk to MTV to Rap and beyond.

During the show Koenig channels dozens of well-known - and original - characters in a one man tour de force spanning 7 decades. With original songs and parodies of everyone from The Beatles to Lady Gaga, and from Doo Wop to Hip Hop, Koenig's impressions include Elton John, Billy Joel, Blondie, Willie Nelson, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, The Bee Gees, and the Eagles, among others.
