Hall of Fame Class of 2017 Announced

The votes have been cast and counted and now the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame will begin preparations to welcome its Class of 2017 as the five new members will be formally inducted October 14 in Vail.

Heading the list of new Hall of Fame members is Aspen backcountry and ski mountaineering legend Chris Davenport.  He will be joined by SKEA Ltd. owner, president and designer Diane Boyer of Vail; recently retired Steamboat Ski Resort president and author Chris Diamond; and former U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association National Competition Director Walt Evans.

In addition, Aspen ski racing administrator and official Dave Stapleton, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as the 2017 Pioneer selection.

The Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame Class of 2017 will be officially enshrined during the organization's annual Induction Gala.
Colorado Snowsports Museum Closes For The Summer For Transformation Construction

The Colorado Snowsports Museum's highly anticipated $2.4 million transformation is officially underway!!

The Museum will be closed for the summer for construction, with the anticipated Grand Opening of the new Museum at the start of the 2017-18 ski season.

The demolition team, made up of Museum staff and board member Dean Ericson, have dismantled the majority of all of the exhibits and have prepared our artifacts for transport to the Resource Center.

We hope you'll come visit us in the fall.

Project Highlights Include:

New Visible Entrance
A new prominent entrance, situated directly in front of the parking structure main staircase, will improve visibility and accessibility to the Museum, while also allowing for a reconfigured interior.

Ceiling Height Increased
Drop ceiling tiles will be removed to access 7-10 feet of additional ceiling height, making the exhibit spaces feel more spacious.

Exhibits
The soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division, who trained in Colorado during World War II, are the cornerstones of the Colorado ski industry and their story will be the centerpiece of the new Museum. Additionally, Skiing History, Ski Racing, Snowboard Archives, Colorado Ski Resorts, and Ski Fashion and Equipment Evolution, along with the iconic Snowsports Hall of Fame, will all be modernized.

Interactive Media
State-of-the-art interactive exhibit technologies are being incorporated into the exhibit design. Touchscreens in the Skiing History, Colorado Ski Resorts and Hall of Fame Exhibit bays will allow visitors to explore more topics in greater depth than is feasible in the Museum's physical space. Digitized photographs and documents; videos and films; audio recordings and other items from the Museum's archives will come to life at the touch of a finger, adding "edutainment" that will captivate the youngest to oldest visitors.

Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum And Hall Of Fame Changes Its Name

What's in a name?  Actually, quite a bit.  Our board of directors recently approved a name change for the Museum and Hall of Fame and from now on, the organization will be known as the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame.

"C hanging Ski and Snowboard to Snowsports allows us to be more inclusive of all of the different types of skiing and snowboarding that we are striving to preserve and promote," explained Susie Tjossem, Executive Director of the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame.

"Most people think of skiing as just alpine," Tjossem continued, "but there is also Nordic, telemarking, backcountry, freestyle and ski jumping, all of which have played a role in the history of the sport throughout Colorado."

The name change will coincide with the major $2.4 million transformation project that is being undertaken by the museum this summer.
