Pond Hockey Club Staff Spotlight
Steven Mitchell, Rink Operations Manager

Hometown: Lancaster, Pennsylvania

In addition to driving the Zamboni and sharpening skates, Steven "Mitch" Mitchell  keeps an eye on all aspects of the Pond Hockey Club's operations.

The Philadelphia Flyers fan started playing hockey when he was 18. He has worked in the hockey business since 2000. Mitch was the Arena Manager for the Austin Ice Bats pro hockey team from 2003-2006. H e still plays in the AA adult leagues at the Pond (when he has time).

Who is your favorite current Philadelphia Flyers player?

Is driving the Zamboni really as much fun as most people think it might be?
I think it is. I think it's a lot of fun.  It's like really slow NASCAR, because you are going in circles.

What year and make is your station wagon?
It's a 1962 Chevy Biscayne.

When in Philly, should someone go to Pat's or Geno's or skip the cheesesteak?
My personal opinion is skip Pat's and Geno's and go to Dalessandro's in Manayunk.

Congratulations Texas Sled Snipers!
Texas Sled Hockey Team Competes in USA Hockey National Festival

The Pond Hockey Club and the Shootout Foundation would like to congratulate the Texas Sled Snipers on their outstanding showing at the 2017 USA Disabled National Sled Hockey Festival Tournament in San Jose, California.

The Texas team, which was comprised of players from Austin and Houston, went 2-1 before winning the championship game of their division 8-1.

Special shout-out to Grant Blair, who tied for 3rd in points even though he was the only youth player playing in an adult division (Grant is 12 years old).  Grant played with a huge cast on his leg due to having three broken bones and an unaligned knee.

We are truly inspired by the determination of these hockey players!
