Mother's Day and Mayhem
I never expected to be raising my two boys alone. My husband, Dave, and I had a solid marriage that was the basis for building a solid platform to raise two sons. So when Dave made his transition to heaven after a bitter fought battle with cancer, I became a single parent raising two boys. Never could I have imagined myself being a single parent. From watching my mom and
from ministering to some fabulous single parents, I knew the road was far from easy.
So here I am raising two teen boys. The adventure never stops! There is major mayhem to mass hysteria sprinkled with a few quiet moments where I get to glance into their beautiful developing souls. The road is not easy at times as it would be wonderful to have someone to bounce off parenting ideas or have another to formulate a plan of how to handle this or that parenting dilemma or just commiserate.
Yet, the one spiritual truth I have found in this journey is that the energy I use to wish things were different is wasted energy. The more I try to wish my life was still the way it used to be the less energy I have to engage in the mayhem or hysteria. The less energy I have to enjoy living in the boys gym where there is boy stank and equipment all over the house. Yes, I did say enjoy because this is the stage they are in right now and the more I am able to be present to their stage and their lives, the mo
re joy we have to share.
I am very blessed because God has kept a promise found in Matthew 5:4, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. In this month where we celebrate Mother's Day I am comforted in my losses for Jesus is redeeming my losses. Where I thought I could not do this, God is redeeming my losses and I enjoy and relish my Motherhood because I am able to let go of what was my idea of what it was going to be and enjoy what is. And what is. . . .is two very wonderful, loud, messy, forgetful, always hungry, wrestling boys who fill my days and my heart with joy.
Be Blessed this Mother's Day!!!

Emergency Preparation - Next Step:
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!
We have shown that we have purchased Emergency Supplies to ensure we are prepared for the most likely disaster situation in Southern California - which is a massive earthquake. All of our supplies are accessible in Shed B with any key for our campus.
Our next step has to be
recruiting
a core of people that can be first responders in an earthquake.
Those of us who experienced the Northridge quake remember how scary this was. The bad news is that USGS tell us that the Big One in Southern California could be 50 TIMES STRONGER.
Our largest risk situation is during mornings when the Small World is open! During this time we have limited staff on site and if a large quake happens at this time we could easily have 50 children in need of help!
Most estimates say that our Emergency Services could be overwhelmed and could take 6-8 hours to respond to a call. It seems prudent to plan on a degree of Self Sufficiency during this time and to plan on a team of our own people to respond to help rescue these priceless children and care for them for a prolonged period - maybe as much as 72 hours.
We have the supplies on site. Now we need help to react to this situation. We are planning to train our Team of First Responders but we need your help.
We need at least
10 able bodied people
to respond in a morning earthquake situation. Those of us on Trustees who teach know we may be held at our schools until the Principal releases us. That could be hours or days. We need your help in this critical area.
If you are interested in helping please email me or any one of our Trustees and we will set up a meeting to start the process.
Thanks for your Help
Keith Paul

Small World Preschool Update

The Easter activities in April were the main focus of the month at Small World. Children enjoyed eggs in every size hidden in lots of different play areas. There were plastic eggs in the sand box for little hands to match and pour. In the classroom, children made Easter cards for their families. Some were painted with marble painting and some were decorated with stickers and markers. All the children had the opportunity to participate in an egg hunt and bring their one, treasured egg home. Our Hook Burger fundraiser was in April and so glad to see so many families participating to support our school. In May our fundraiser will be,
Buck-A-Book!! We are now collecting gently, used books of all interests and age levels. The books will be collected at the Small World office. During the week of
May 22nd the books will be sold at a great price of just a Buck! Gently used and complete puzzles will be collected for the sale as well! Small World is on Facebook! Please "Like" us on Facebook and see what wonderful stuff is happening on campus!
We are excited to see you on Sunday, May 21st at
Small World Sunday!

This is a 7 week study that starts with the Green flag used in racing to start the race. The purpose of Take The Flag is not to turn readers into race fans BUT to help them become stronger disciples of Christ. Rob Fuquay is a Methodist minister in Indianapolis, In - the home of the Indy 500 so a timely study during May! All ladies are invited to join us as we share Christian Love and Caring to one another. Thank you!

When they finished eating, Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?"
Simon replied, "Yes, Lord, you know I love you."
Jesus said to him, "Feed my lambs." 16 Jesus asked a second time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?"
Simon replied, "Yes, Lord, you know I love you."
Jesus said to him, "Take care of my sheep." 17 He asked a third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?"
Peter was sad that Jesus asked him a third time, "Do you love me?" He replied, "Lord, you know everything; you know I love you."
Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep. 18 I assure you that when you were younger you tied your own belt and walked around wherever you wanted. When you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and another will tie your belt and lead you where you don't want to go." 19 He said this to show the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. After saying this, Jesus said to Peter, "Follow me."
John 21:15-21Common English Bible (CEB)
When I was in seminary I was talking with my intern pastor about this verse. After some discussion about this verse my mentor pastor turned to me and told me about a conversation with a famous theologian he overheard. The theologian and a young grad-student were talking about training to become pastors, and the student expressed excitement about becoming a shepherd. At this point the professor interrupted the young man saying. "Young sir, you have it wrong. There is only one Good Shepherd, you my friend are merely a sheepdog po
inting the way to the Shepherd."
My friends, I am so proud to be "Nothin' but a sheepdog," working with some other incredible sheepdogs as we point the path our lambs are to take. We could really use more help as we roll into summer. If you hear Jesus' word to follow me and your heart is drawn to our youngest members, please see me. There is always something to do.
Our last spring unit is Peter Rocks! May 7th we will look at Peter and John; May 14th Peter and Tabitha, May 21st Peter and Cornelius; and May 28th Peter in Prison. Make an effort to walk along with Peter in his journey of making sheep. Maybe before long you will be like Peter, or maybe just a sheepdog. Come see what JAM is all about.
