Be a Village Person!

This Week in Westville is your go-to source for news, events, activities and goings-on in the Westville community. Like NPR and other user-supported media, much of our operations rely on the support of our "local listeners" - you, the reader. In order for the Westville Village Renaissance Alliance to continue providing this valuable community service, we ask you to donate or join WVRA as a Village Person today!

Beyond the e-news, WVRA is working every day to make Westville a brighter, safer, more vibrant place to be. To learn more about our Main Street program initiatives, from community and cultural activities, economic revitalization, traffic-calming, historic preservation, and other quality of life efforts, click HERE.

BROKEN UMBRELLA THEATER PRESENTS: THE MOBILE EXCHANGE AT ARTWALK

The Mobile Story Exchange debuts this May at ArtWalk in Westville. Give a Story / Get a Story continues in June at the International Festival of Arts & Ideas pop-ups and on the New Haven Green during the Festival.

In 1878, local telegraph operator George Coy established the first telephone exchange in the world right here in New Haven. A Broken Umbrella Theatre, New Haven's own theater company specializing in original work based on New Haven history, celebrates Coy's groundbreaking invention with EXCHANGE.  Inspired by Coy's early invention, Broken Umbrella will examine the public's relationship with the telephone, communication, and personal exchange by recording and sharing first-person stories and incorporating some of the content into dialogue, song lyrics, or soundscapes for performances of EXCHANGE during New Haven's "City Wide Open Studios" in October, 2017.

Visit A Broken Umbrella's Mobile Story Exchange at ArtWalk in Edgewood Park to share your stories and hear stories in return! Open to All. Everyone has a story and we want to tell YOURS!
