Cleveland is a bike friendly place. Plenty of CWRU faculty and staff bike commute to work, and Cleveland boasts some great places for the whole family to ride.

Log onto HCM and click on Main Menu, Self Service, BenefitsWellness Program Participation and follow the prompts.

Try An Online Class
Summer is a great time to try an online class. Many folks at the University have a little more free time, but may not be available for on-site classes because of travel, holidays, etc.
Why not earn your Wellness Program Incentive with Selfhelpworks?
The most popular of the classes at CWRU has been the LivingEasy, Stress and Resiliency program.

Walk or Run with 121 in May

CWRU's 121 Fitness Center offers a great walking/running challenge this month. Learn more about the Cleveland Marathon Kickoff Challenge and up your week mileage!

In addition, the 121 Walking Club starts on May 8 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at noon all summer.

This May, the Wellness Program encourages you to get moving! During National Physical Fitness and Sports Month why not try something new? This is a great time to:
  • Commute to work on your bicycle
  • Take up a sport like pickle ball, tennis or golf
  • Hike in one of our beautiful Metroparks
  • Try a new class at 121 Fitness

Build Community with a Great Book this Summer
Books@Work is Back   
During the summer session of Books@Work, readers from across the university will come together for professor-led literature seminars to build confidence, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity.

Two sessions will begin this month:
Wednesdays at Noon in the Kelvin Smith Library starting May 17
Thursdays at 12:30 PM in Nord 211 starting May 18

Participants must be able to attend at least 10 of the 12 sessions offered in order to be placed on a roster. Learn more on the Wellness Website. 
Breathe, Move and Be Well Yoga is Back
Perfect for Those New to Yoga or with Some Limitations   
This 6-week program focuses on the science of regulating breathing patterns paired with mindful movement.

Advanced Option For Level 1 Grads 
In this 6-week continuation of Breathe, Move and Be Well Yoga, participants should already be familiar with the Viniyoga style of therapeutic yoga previously presented. Level 2 is designed for those who would like more physical challenge in their yoga practice.

In this eight-week class you will learn planning techniques, mindfulness, budget-friendly tips, important information about food and medication interactions and more! Understand how what you eat plays an extraordinary role in your body, your mind, and your community.

HealthTrails Wrap Up
Our 12-week fitness competition wrapped up on April 16. Here are some key statistics.
  • Of the 357 registrants, 245 successfully completed 600 virtual miles (equivalent of 150 minutes of exercise weekly for 12 weeks)
  • The top participant traveled 2473.8 virtual miles!
  • Participants averaged 873.7 miles each
  • Participants averaged 1.7 two-minute time outs daily and five 8 oz glasses of water daily
  • At program start, participants reported 2.78 days of exercise weekly. This rose to 3.76 days at program close.
