Introducing our New Career Explorations

Research shows that early engagement  in career experiences can help students improve academic performance, define their career goals and increase the likelihood of pursuing a post-secondary education. With this in mind, o ur new Career Explorations funded by the Education Foundation of Sarasota County deliver real world experiences for students within our own community. Check out this month's VLOG to see EdExploreSRQ manager Angela Hartvigsen introduce these exciting new opportunities for middle school teachers and students throughout the district.

From manufacturing and construction to law, biotech, the arts, healthcare and other industries, our new Career Explorations allow students to visit local companies and engage in hands-on activities designed to give them in-depth understanding about the level of education and experience they will need in order to succeed in the fields of their choice.

Why Not "Make a Day of It" with Embracing Our Differences

Each spring, the Embracing Our Differences exhibit on Sarasota's bayfront is one of our most popular Explorations for teachers and students. Focusing on art appreciation, character building and diversity, this wonderful Exploration is totally FREE and includes round trip bus transportation!

This year, Embracing Our Differences has made the Exploration even better by inviting teachers to "Make a Day of It" by combining a trip to the exhibit with a visit to one of six other EdExploreSRQ educational partners as well. Spots are still available between now and May 31, so book your Exploration today!

Teaching Artist Spotlight: Deb Lombard

Many of you already know EdExploreSRQ Teaching Artist Deb Lombard, but if you haven't yet made her acquaintance you should. A former dance and movement instructor at Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts and former outreach coordinator for Sarasota Ballet, Deb embodies the EdExploreSRQ spirit of "bringing learning to life" for students of all ages.
She is also an absolute expert at helping elementary school students fuse movement and dance into a greater understanding and appreciation for math!

Don't Forget: EdExploreSRQ has Summer Camp Listings too!

Hey, teachers, don't forget to remind your students and their parents that EdExploreSRQ is a great resource for summer camp information as well. Many of the great Exploration providers we work with throughout the year also offer fun, educational summer camps for students of all ages. Parents and students can find listings in the "Parents" section of our website under "Summer Camps and Things to Do."
