NFF Board Member and recently retired Alabama athletics director Bill Battle received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Alabama's College of Human Environmental Sciences on May 6. 

NFF Board Member and IMG College Chairman Emeritus Ben Sutton was inducted into the State of North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame on May 5. 

2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Kirk Gibson's message to graduates at Michigan State last week focused on the influence they have over their destinies. Gibson also received an honorary doctorate in humanities from the university during its commencement ceremony.

College Football Hall of Fame coach Tubby Raymond (Delaware) has been elected to the Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame.

In addition to the members of the 2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class that were either selected in the NFL Draft last week or signed as free agents, Arkansas linebacker Brooks Ellis has signed with the New England Patriots.

2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Carter Hanson was named a co-recipient of Saint John's (Minn.)'s 2017 Fr. Wilfred Theisen Student-Athlete of the Year Award.

2011 NFF Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award recipient and recently retired broadcaster Brent Musburger  will be honored  with a Sports Emmy lifetime achievement award during the annual sports Emmy Awards on May 9 in New York.
Over The Middle
The Touchdown Club of Atlanta-NFF Chapter  will hold its annual scholarship luncheon May 10 at the Atlanta Tech Village. The chapter will distribute $26,000 in scholarships.

The NFF Valley of the Sun (Ariz.) Chapter will host a "Changing of the Guard" event May 17 at Valle Luna in Chandler, Ariz. Arizona State Senior Associate Athletics Director of Football Operations Tim Cassidy will be the guest speaker and new chapter president Adam Turner will be introduced.

The NFF Doc Boisoneau/Northern Connecticut Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete luncheon May 21 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Conn.

The NFF Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter will hold its 42nd annual scholar-athlete Banquet May 21 at the Boston-Newton Marriott. The chapter will honor 33 scholar-athletes.

Since 1959, the National Football Foundation has annually recognized the best and brightest college players, presenting them with prestigious NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments. The $18,000 postgraduate scholarships are presented at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City. 

Launched in 2008, the NFF Scholar-Athlete Alumni Association provides a powerful vehicle for past honorees to remain in the vanguard of the NFF's present efforts.
