Here's a quick look at some of what's happening at NETRC this month:

The
Northeast Regional Telehealth Conference
is coming up fast (May 23-24)
! If you are planning to attend, be sure to book your room at Hotel UMass as soon as possible (use promo code NET17C). Our current room block expires this Friday (4/28) and the hotel may sell out entirely in the next few weeks.
- Team members Danielle Louder and Terry Rabinowitz have just returned from ATA 2017. Among many highlights, Dr. Rabinowitz led a workshop on how to get published in peer-reviewed journals. We are also thrilled to congratulate this year's NETRC Conference Keynote Speaker, Elizabeth Krupinski, for receiving the ATA President's Award for Individual Leadership!
- Earlier this month, we presented at the New England Genetics Collaborative Annual Meeting. Participants included regional leaders in clinical genetics and counseling, many of which provide vital planning, diagnostic, and treatment services for expecting mothers, infants, and children.
- We continue to watch for new funding opportunities that may be of interest to you. The most notable RFA that has been released in the past month may be from the New York State Department of Health to expand Project ECHO. We are also eagerly awaiting the release of the USDA Distant Learning and Telemedicine Grant, possibly sometime this week.
- NETRC is hosting this month's National Telehealth Webinar, highlighting our student consultants from the Boston University School of Public Health and Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and their project to develop communication strategies to engage healthcare providers in telehealth. Read this article about their work and be sure to join tomorrow's webinar to learn all about their recommendations.
- Finally, we're working on several exciting projects this month before our conference. Stay tuned for updated reimbursement fact sheets and an announcement about the new Northeast Telehealth Leadership Forum to support collaborative problem solving across the region.

Engaging Providers with Telehealth Technology:
Training Modules and Communication Strategies
TOMORROW, April 27, 2017 at 3:00pm EDT
Student Consultants from Boston University School of Public Health and Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine will present a brief needs assessment and literature review on the use of telehealth by patients living in rural areas of Massachusetts. The team will discuss a training intervention developed to facilitate provider use of telehealth and ideas for communication strategies to engage providers. Attendees will be encouraged to add to the conversation during the webinar and share their experiences.

State Telehealth Laws and Medicaid Program Policies
|
The Center for Connected Health Policy (our National Telehealth Policy Resource Center) has released the 5th edition of the 50 State Telehealth Laws and Reimbursement Policies Report! Significant findings include:
- Forty-eight states and Washington, DC provide reimbursement for some form of live video in Medicaid fee-for-service. This has remained constant since CCHP's August 2016 edition of this report.
- Thirteen states provide reimbursement for store-and-forward. One state, Nevada, has been added since August 2016.
- Twenty-two state Medicaid programs provide reimbursement for remote patient monitoring (RPM). Most states with RPM policies restrict reimbursement to home health agencies and limit it to patients with specific clinical conditions.
- Six states currently have some form of a geographic restriction similar to the Medicare program.
- The practice of limiting the type of facility that can serve as an originating site decreased slightly since August 2016 to twenty-three states (down from twenty-five).
- Thirty-one state Medicaid programs offer a transmission or facility fee when telehealth is used. This number is up one since CCHP's August 2016 update.
- The number of states with private payer laws has remained constant since August 2016, with thirty-five jurisdictions having laws addressing private payer reimbursement for telehealth.
