James River District Communications Coordinator, Ronnika Davis, will offer a free workshop to the churches on the district who are interested in opening a church Facebook page. This is a basic class, and topics will include: benefits of having a church Facebook page; how to get started; Facebook terminology; social media ethics and more!  If you are interested in attending this workshop, please email  [email protected]

Highland UMC in Colonial Heights is seeking applicants for the Emergent/Alternative Sunday Morning Worship Service (Compass) and their worship service (The Way) that meets in a local restaurant. This part-time position will be responsible for worship planning, leading band and vocal rehearsals, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, and leading the Sunday morning and other contemporary worship services. The Ann Douglas Scholarship is available through the United Methodist Women of High Street United Methodist Church in Franklin, Virginia. The scholarship, in the amount of $750.00, is awarded annually to the best qualified candidate from the James River District. Applicants must have completed at least one year of college, have a grade point average of 2.75 and be pursuing a career in the ministry, in the field of Religious Studies, or be ministers completing their requirements for the Virginia Conference.

To be eligible for the 2017-2018 school term, all applications must be received by August 31, 2017.
