The Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Steel Challenge team competition, sponsored by Bluegrass Hearing Clinic, on Saturday, May 6 at Sugar Creek Range in Lancaster, KY.  Though this event is not for novices, it is all about having fun with your friends - while helping with a fundraiser!

Organizers Lisa Knetsche, Chamber Board Chairperson and co-owner of The Spine Center, and Carol Webb-Marshall, Chamber Board member and co-owner of Health First Chiropractic, encourage people to bring a team and have some fun.  Knetsche notes, "There will be bragging rights but it's really about having fun with friends. We also have lots of great door prizes that anyone can win!"
Teams should register by April 28, 2017 and can do so be going   to www.sugarcreekrange.com to print out a form.  Please print out the form and mail it to the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce at 105 E. Walnut Street, Danville, KY 40422.  Teams will be assigned a time-specific slot.  If space allows, registrations will be taken at the door but t-shirts are not guaranteed for late registrants.
This is a new fundraiser for the Chamber and will underwrite their annual efforts on behalf of the business community.
The competition involves participants having two attempts or two rounds to shoot five steel targets at five stages.    Scoring is based on both speed and accuracy. The goal is to hit each target twice, as quickly as possible.
Participants should bring .22 caliber pistols with a case for your weapon. You will need 100 rounds of ammunition. Team members should bring their own hearing and eye protection. Small foam ear plugs will be available for shooters and ammunition will also be for sale. For the safety of all participants, each weapon will need to be in a case when you are not shooting and moving from stage to stage.
This event will be held rain or shine so dress accordingly. Range safety rules will be observed. There will be an award ceremony following the event.
To enhance the fun and competition of the shoot, you will be going through the stages with a 4-man team.  The team cost is $200 which will include a continental breakfast, a box lunch, a t-shirt, and entry into the competition. While individuals will be scored separately, team scores will be the one in the rankings. If you are a true novice and have never shot a pistol, this event is not for you. You must be 21 years of age to participate and all spectators must be at least 13 years of age.
For those who want an extra challenge, w hen the steel challenge is completed, people will have an opportunity to shoot a machine gun. There will be a demonstration of a Thompson submachine gun. After the demonstration, there will be a full-auto MP5 and a full-auto MP7 carbine available to shoot. This is a unique opportunity to handle some rare weapons. You can choose to shoot either of the guns (or both). While there is not an extra fee to shoot the machine guns, ammunition is $1 per round.
Other sponsors are: Danville Eye Center, Paps Foods LLC, Wilderness Trail Distillery, The Spine Center, Bob Allen Motor Mall; State Farm Insurance - Bob Miller, Agent; Tye Financial Group; Doss & Horky
