Volunteer Canada, together with Ipsos Public Affairs and Investors Group, has issued a research report on Canadian's perceptions and attitudes on volunteering. Recognizing Volunteering in 2017 reveals that there is a shift in the kinds of activities people consider to be volunteering and a move towards a broader view of community engagement. The definition of volunteering is expanding to include informal volunteering, social action, organic movements and individual social responsibility.

The National Institute of Senior Centers in the United States honours innovative, creative, and replicable programs for older adults through their Programs of Excellence Awards. Programs are recognized in the categories of educational; expressive and creative arts; fundraising; leadership, civic engagement and community development; nutrition, fitness and health promotion; and special events. Mental Health First Aid for Seniors is intended to increase the capacity of seniors, families (informal caregivers), friends, staff in care settings and communities to promote the mental health of seniors, prevent mental illness and suicide wherever possible and intervene early when problems first emerge. This course will cover how to:

• Recognize the symptoms of mental health problems or crises as they develop in seniors
• Provide initial help when dealing with a mental health problem or crisis
• Decrease stigma and discrimination around mental health problems and illnesses
• Guide a senior and/or caregiver toward appropriate professional help
• Provide strategies and resources to support both seniors and their caregivers

The EASC is looking for an Administrator who welcomes challenges and likes working with positive people for the betterment of Aboriginal seniors in the Edmonton area. This person would have a diploma or degree in the human services field, particularly with non-profits, with training in volunteer management, staff supervision, and fundraising. The successful candidate will have a solid financial background, leadership abilities, experience in program planning, coordination and delivery with excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

The EASC is a well-established organization providing programs and services to seniors, primarily Aboriginal, designed to assist them in actively participating in healthy and happy lifestyles. Ours is a policy governing Board of Directors with a very clear understanding of its role in relation to management.
