Jefferson St. Farmers Market Begins Season with Extended Hours,
Star Wars Theme
The wait is over! The region's favorite market returns to the 200-500 blocks of Jefferson every Thursday beginning May 4. It's a great opportunity to get fresh produce and baked goods, pick up flowers and crafts, sample some delicious food, and hear free family entertainment in the heart of a great downtown. This season, the market hours are being extended, 4:30 to 7:30 PM. In honor of Star Wars Day - May the 4th - the first market will have special Star Wars themed vendors and activities. Costumes are encouraged!
The Jefferson St. Farmers Market is organized by Downtown Partners and supported by Two Rivers Bank & Trust.

Downtown Partners and Bike Burlington invite you to kick off the summer with the 35th Annual Snake Alley Criterium on Memorial Day weekend. The excitement begins on Friday afternoon, May 26, with the Burlington Road Race, 104 miles from the Port of Burlington to Grandview and back, ending on Main St. for the sprint to the finish line. Afterwards, join in the fun with live music and refreshments during Friday Fest at the Port.
Criterium Day, Saturday, May 27, begins with delicious food at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at the Port. The Criterium races begin at 8:30 AM downtown, with the final Category 1/2/Pro race at 3:40 PM. Hundreds of athletes from around the country will be competing for thousands of dollars in prizes. The popular kids' races and the Cobble Climb take place at noon. Spend your day cheering on the racers as they make their way up the grueling 12.5 percent grade of Snake Alley, with spectators literally in the middle of the action. Be sure to visit our downtown shops and restaurants and check out the food vendors, too.

The Latest News...
- We had a night of big wins at the Main Street Iowa awards in Des Moines last month! Out of eleven competitive categories and 52 Main Street Iowa communities, Burlington took three of the awards. Steepletown Development LLC was recognized for Best Total Building Rehab for Burlington Bent River Brewing Co., Hope Haven Area Development Corp. was honored for Best New/Infill Building for Hopefully Yours, and the DPI Design Committee brought home the award for Outstanding Beautification for the Lightscape Project. In addition, Gretchen Walls was honored for her volunteer service. Congratulations all around!
- Thanks to Presenting Sponsor Tri States Public Radio and Gold Sponsor Olive Wine for making Friday's Spring Sip, Taste & Stroll possible. Put it on your calendars now - the fall event will take place on September 29.
- Myers Construction continues roof truss repairs at 300 Washington, a project supported in part by the State Historical Society of Iowa, Historic Resource Development Program. On April 21, a group of middle school student volunteers cleaned out the first floor. Students from Great River Christian School will be doing some beautification around the building this Friday, and Brockway will be putting a new roof on it this spring.
