* Plant some edible landscaping plants at home. Learn how at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, in the Milford-Miami Township Library.

Clermont Public Library

SPEED MENTORING: Commissioner David Painter was one of several mentors who spent time on March 7 in a speed mentoring event at New Richmond High School, organized by the Clermont Chamber's Workforce Readiness Initiative. During the event, 110 high school juniors interacted with business professionals who discussed their career paths, skills and interests with the students, 7-10 minutes at a time. "In my case, I was sitting in the high school where I had graduated from some 40 years ago," Commissioner Painter said. "I was able to relate my experience and career path starting from the exact chairs they were sitting in. It was a great opportunity to contribute to our youth and instill confidence in their ability to achieve."

Congratulations to the Workforce Readiness Initiative, which was recently recognized by Gov. John Kasich as a successful Community Connector program in fostering student mentorships.

PERENNIAL SCHOOL: OSU Extension Clermont will hold its annual Southwest Ohio Perennial School 8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 13, at the Clermont County Fairgrounds, 4-H Hall, 1000 Locust St., Owensville. The event will feature presentations including a trade show, staffed by regional vendors and gardening organizations. GRAIN BIN TRAINING: OSU Extension Clermont, in partnership with Stonelick and Jackson Township and Fayetteville Fire and Rescue, will host a Grain Bin Rescue Awareness program April 22-23, at the Stonelick Township Fire Department on US 50, Batavia. The workshop at 9 a.m. April 22 is open to the public, and will teach farmers, farm families and community members about the hazards associated with stored grain. The workshop April 23 is open only to fire/EMS professionals.

LOOK LEADERSHIP: Registrations are being accepted for OSU Extension Clermont's LOOK Summer Leadership Experience. This summer program consists of five themed fun-filled days, packed with leadership experiences. This experience will be a service learning project; allowing students to practice their leadership skills, and includes several networking opportunities. RSVP by June 1.

SENIOR EXPO: Clermont Senior Services will hold its 3rd Annual Senior Living Expo, presented by Superior Care Plus, on May 11, at the Holiday Inn Eastgate. Admission is free. Exhibitors are encouraged to participate by signing up here. And, check out Senior Services' new website!

A WINNER: Juvenile Court Judge James Shriver recently held a poster contest for grade school students to illustrate the importance of school attendance. The winner was Spaulding Elementary (Goshen School District) fourth-grader A.J. Cameron, shown at left with the judge, whose poster of a rainbow was titled "Which Side Will You Choose?" Positive outcomes were illustrated on one side of the rainbow in bright, vibrant colors, while less desirable outcomes were illustrated with dull colors and rain. The poster is now hanging in Juvenile Court's virtual lab to encourage students in their attendance.
