2017 SFI Annual Conference New Speakers Announced
|
|
The 2017 SFI Annual Conference, September 27-29, in Ottawa, Ontario, will bring together thought leaders from the forest products sector, including conservation and community partners, tribal and Indigenous leaders, and forest product customers.
This year's conference theme is Forests. A Way of Life. The conference will highlight a variety of topics related to the future of our forests and the people who depend on them. As a sustainability leader, SFI focuses on the interconnectedness of robust forest supply chains, conservation benefits associated with active forest management, and sustainable communities. Engage with others by participating in our wide-ranging and provocative conference, covering themes including:
- Forest policy challenges and opportunities affecting forest health, communities and markets
- Forest research, innovation and the role of responsible forestry in the bioeconomy - from textiles to tall wood buildings
- The role of active forest management in addressing water quality, carbon sequestration and biodiversity to meet community, customer and conservation objectives
- How the SFI Fiber Sourcing Standard is relevant from small family landowners through to consumer-facing brandowners
- Progressive aboriginal relations including Indigenous housing
- Market access, reputation and trade implications for forest communities who depend on forests for a way of life
- Youth education and building the next generation of future forest leaders
- Why women in this sector rock! And why we think the men are pretty important too!
- Are wetlands for the birds? For people? For forest health?
- How the SFI Forest Management Standard is finding new approaches to species at risk and endangered species, and to new monitoring for conservation easements.
In celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary SFI and the Canadian Institute of Forestry will be holding a joint session Thursday morning, September 28.
We
will feature a cross-Canada look at the challenges and opportunities facing the forest sector supply chain and forest communities. We expect more than 600 people with diverse expertise and interests from across North America and internationally to attend this joint session. Join us for this signature event featuring thought leaders and change agents.
