Growing through New Products
Every company introduces new products or services as a way of growing their business beyond an organic path forward. This strategy is implemented when it is determined that foundation products may need to be supported by newer or complementary products and as customers see the need for an expanded value proposition. The automobile industry is the prime example yesterday and the computer/phone industry today.

At SVF, we see ourselves growing or at least migrating more and more into a ¼ turn valve company. To do this we must be competitive and complete. We must offer better solutions as a ball valve company and we must offer products adjacent to ball valves that make us a complete ¼ turn company. In the former, we have just introduced more Direct Mount products that eliminate the need for brackets and hardware in actuating our valve and we have augmented the ball valves with our new StreamLine butterfly valve

To make the automated version more competitive we have introduced the EZ-Tork actuator.
Over the next few weeks and months we are excited to introduce these other new products:
  • Multi-ported flanged ball valves (MB51)
  • Economy-class ball valves we will market under the category of the "C" Series
  • EZ-Max - high performance ball valves featuring direct mounting
  • Down the road, we see SVF with a High Performance Valve and a Triple offset design
So, we are more competitive and more complete, the two necessary aspects of product growth. You can find information about our new products as they become available at our New Products Page.

Butterfly Valves

This month we are pleased to introduce our new butterfly valve line... StreamLine .

This product is designed for general service, HVAC, irrigation and other processing applications. StreamLine features ISO direct mounting and low operating torque allowing for a much smaller and more competitive automated package. The StreamLine data sheet will be posted online in a few days. We will issue an eBlast announcement at that time.

talentTalent Vs. Process

Much has been written about the difference between talent vs. process in an organization. In a recent article that appeared in Industry Week, Lean Advisor, Speaker and Author Jamie Flinchbaugh, describes the quality adage, "Bad systems beat good people", which is that good people come to    work with every intention of doing a good job, but are stymied by bad systems of work.  And the level of frustration with these bad systems and processes goes against many ideals of continuous improvement philosophies.

The quality field has seen many examples of continuous improvement systems under different names.  Some examples are lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and the balanced scorecard.  Another approach is TQM, which stands for Total Quality Management or kaizen, the Japanese term meaning "principle of improvement".  Whichever methodology your organization uses to achieve continuous improvement, be careful that your only focus is not process; talent is just as important, if not more so.  Flinchbaugh uses an analogy that he wouldn't be able to walk on as a star quarterback on an NFL team, or play first violin with New York Philharmonic, or follow James Patterson's fiction-writing process and produce the same result.  What is missing in each equation?  Talent.  The process might be documented and effective, but the talent does not equate.

awardAward Winning Product Solutions

SVF Flow Controls strives to provide its customers with plug and play solutions that are simple to use and easy to install. For instance, pneumatically actuated valves require a pilot valve to deliver the supply air pressure and position signaling (using micro switches) to provide indication of the valve position. Most of the product solutions require two devices to complete this, a solenoid valve and a limit switch box. Each device is mounted and wired to make the assembly work. SVF has combined this into a simple solution. The Nexus-LP/LPX integrates these functions into a single unit reducing time and cost.

Flow Control Magazine recognized and honored this design by naming it as one of the innovation award winners.

Nexus-LP/LPX Integrated Solenoid Valve and Limit Switch are designed for automated valve packages integrating input and feedback connections into a single enclosure with a single conduit connection. The design is weather proof and a perfect solution for hazardous environments.

Nexus-LP/LPX is a discrete valve controller providing an optimized solution for on/off valve control & position sensing for the process industries. Equipped with a low watt miniature pilot valve and position switches, The Nexus-LP helps plants, platforms and pipelines improve productivity and increase safety in the harshest environments and toughest applications. Nexus-LP/LPX is available in either a NEMA 4/4X enclosure or DNV 09 ATEX 53807C (NEMA 7) for hazardous environments.

Low Temperature Actuators
blizzardAutomated valves are often installed in environments that reach extremely low temperatures. Our most recent engineering project resulted in the development and introduction of a pneumatic actuator for temperatures that go to -60 ° F. This design has been supplied and field proven in applications throughout the northern reaches of Russia and have performed reliably. They are now a standard choice for these applications. marketMarket Leaders

About 30 years ago, a book was published that related to market leadership entitled Discipline of Market Leaders. The message in it was that no company can succeed by trying to be all things to all people. A company must find the unique value that it alone can deliver to its chosen market. That book addressed why and how it is to be done by the leaders of the respective companies.

It identified the three key concepts essential for that every business: the value proposition - the promise that a company makes to its customers which can never ever be broken. An example of this is delivery where a UPS
truck driver literally walks through three feet of snow to deliver a package when his truck stalls. The second concept is the value-driven operating model. This is the means to providing the value proposition. This is the combination of operating processes, management systems, and culture necessary for delivery value. The last concept is the value discipline which the way in which companies can combine operating models and value propositions in order to be the best in their markets. This is customer intimacy.
