PVPUSD Hires Two New Associate Principals for PVHS

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD) values their employees and the impact they have upon the success of our students in one of the leading school districts in the nation. The Board of Education took action on April 26, 2017 to approve two Assistant Principal Positions at the Intermediate School level and three Associate Principal Positions at the High School Level.  Two of these new associate principals will begin their work year at PVHS on July 1, 2017.  Please help us welcome our two new Sea Kings!

Palos Verdes High School was chosen by Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) as a 2016 California Honor Roll recipient!

The California Honor Roll is part of a national effort known for its extensive and rigorous analysis of student achievement in public schools. Our school stood above other schools in the state because of our success in getting students to grade level achievement and beyond.

This year, the Honor Roll includes 1,866 public K-8 and high schools that are recognized for demonstrating consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps. The Honor Roll:

  • Includes a measurement of improvement
  • Is the only award given in collaboration with business leaders
  • Includes graduation and dropout rate data
  • No application process is necessary
  • Establishes a higher bar of performance than any other award
  • Takes into account equity and closing achievement gaps

We did not apply for this award (they found us!) and it is a great honor to have been chosen. We will be featured on the Honor Roll website and a banner has been designed for us to hang proudly at our school.

Thanks to the hard work of the students and teachers here at PVHS, we are being recognized for our achievement. This is a testament to the relentless focus on results that our school has shown over the years and to the hard work of our entire school community.

WANTED PROFESSIONALS TO SHARE THEIR CAREERS WITH PVHS STUDENTS:

The Career Club is planning PVHS's first "Occupation Exploration" panel discussion on Tuesday, May 16, 6 p.m.-8 PM in the CCC. The panel currently hosts an advertising/media expert, corporate finance consultant, sports investigative journalist and automotive supply-chain executive. We would like to further expand to additional profession to educate, inspire, if not excite young people to embrace career paths beyond the labels of lawyers, doctors and/or teachers.

Please contact Ms. Skylar McVicar at: [email protected] for more information.

PVHS Arts, Academics, and Athletic Programs:  Improved Dance Facilities Fundraiser 2017

Let's come together as a community! Four hundred PVHS students, including those in Choreo, Song, Cheer, Intermediate Dance, Musical Theater, Drama, Jazz Band, Color Guard, Yoga, P.E. Dance, school clubs, and various academic programs utilize the dance facilities every day for training, preparation, and education. Rehearsals for pep rallies, shows, sports, and theatrical productions are also held in the dance facilities.

PVHS requires updated, properly sprung dance floors to ensure a safe and appropriate training environment. The sprung floors will help decrease injuries resulting from the poor condition of our existing floors which were installed in 1961. The estimated cost to upgrade the facilities is $60,000.00 and our goal is to complete this project no later than July 2017.

The PVHS Booster Club has generously contributed $12,500.00 with an additional $30,000.00 from the District and School Site Funds. $2,500.00 has been raised to date, and an additional $15,000.00 must still be raised to support this project. To reach our fundraising goal, we would appreciate $100.00 or more per family, but any donation will make a difference. Thank you for making great things happen at PVHS!
